open to Joshua
When Andrew had gotten a text message from Joshua asking to pick him up at the bus station, he didn't ask any questions, he just got into his car and drove to pick up his boyfriend. His parents had just left, having to go off and deal with some things on their own, and their visit had been cut short. Andrew had been planning on just heading back to Cold Water, but Joshua's text had him worried and he wondered if something really awful had happened. After he parked his car, he got out to look around for Joshua, and when he spotted him he went over to gently touch his arm with a frown.

"Hey," he said quietly.

Their relationship had gained a lot of trust recently. Andrew wouldn't have ever left Joshua on his own before, but things were different now. He didn't see Joshua as just a possession anymore. Now he was just in love. Joshua was still his, yes, but it was different somehow.

"Why did he even go with Hunter to get him?" he postulated and then fell silent, not wanting to talk about it anymore. He didn't like to think about his brothers loving someone like he loved Andrew. It was selfish, but he couldn't quell it.

"I don't know, a pack thing I guess?" Andrew said as he shrugged. He didn't understand all of the politics or feelings of loyalty, protectiveness, and responsibilty that came with a pack. He knew it was there, sure, but he couldn't quite grasp it. "You don't like thinking of them grown up, do you?"

Joshua shook his head. "No, I don't. I'm scared what they'll be." Kids were supposed to grow up like their parents and that was unacceptable in this case. He was afraid the damage had been done. When he was little, he'd had his father to help him with the brunt of his mother's anger. Not that he ever really stood up to the woman, but he knew he'd had it easier for the first years of his life. He was terrified he hadn't done enough to protect them and when they grew up, all of his mistakes and failures would become more and more apparent and that they would be miserable. It would be his fault.

Andrew put his food down and reached over to gently touch the side of Joshua's face as his brow furrowed up a little bit. He wasn't sure what Joshua meant, but he had an idea. He didn't want to be assuming though. "What do you mean?" he asked softly. "What they'll be?"

"That they'll be like our mother. Or like Rick. That they'll be cruel, or that they won't care about anything but themselves. That they'll hurt people." He knew he, himself, had some of those capabilities. He could be selfish and he could be cruel, but he usually had the willpower to overcome those urges. What if Julian and Jeremiah didn't? "If they're like that, then I'll know I didn't protect them enough."

"I can tell you their auras don't indicate anything like that," Andrew told Joshua with confidence as he dropped his hand away from Joshua's face. "They are happy and secure. At first, when Miah came back, he and Julie's auras were sad but that's changed drastically. They're normal little boys."

He looked up at Andrew, surprised by that. Sometimes, he actually forgot about the sorts of things he could do. "Really?" He sounded a little relieved at that. "Can bad things hide from you?" It was the sort of question that showed his youthful age, a certain amount of innocence to it.

"Well, sure, if they know how to," Andrew answered as he got a straw out to slip it into his drink. "But Julian and Jerrmiah, they don't know that kind of magic. It takes a lot to hide an aura. A lot," he assured as he glanced over at Joshua with a faint smile. "Hunter's aura is crazy. I don't even know what to make of it. It's good, but just... Intense. You can be like that too, sometimes."

Those words distracted Joshua a little and his expression brightened. "Really? Like Hunter?" He was obviously pleased by that comparison and his chest puffed a little with a sense of pride. He wanted to be intense and powerful and good. Finally, he relaxed again, Andrew knowing just what to say. With his head on the man's shoulder, he sighed and put the worry over his brothers out of his mind.

Andrew pressed a kiss to the top of Joshua's head before he finished up his meal. He laid back down on the couch beneath the covers, and he pulled Joshua down with him as a heavy yawn escaped him. It wasn't long before he drifted off to sleep, looking forward to the weekend and time alone he was going to get with Joshua.
