Wendell was painting the porch. The afternoon had been perfect for it and he'd set up little cones at the front door and a sign asking for people to go through the back door. No one really ever used the front door anyway, so the rerouted foot traffic hadn't been a lot.

Currently, he was finishing the tiny details of the railing, using a small brush to dab the fresh white paint into the crevices. He had smudges of white paint on his face and every time he wiped his brow, he got more paint on himself. But the job was nearly done and he'd enjoyed doing it.

Wendell made a bit of a face, unsure of how to answer that. "Well--yes and no. It's hard for me to let go of my human side. I like things just so and when you're a wolf there's so much going on inside your chest that your human thoughts get muddled up. I like to think about more than running and jumping and catching rabbits." He liked to talk to the boys like little adults. It was important to be honest with them and show them that adults were friends and people too, not just authority figures or even good providers. They were pack. "But Hunter helps me and it's good to let go every now and again. It's good for us."

There was just no describing how much he adored Julian. He put his hand on his head, smoothing his hair back and leaning forward to give him a kiss. "A nap sounds like just the thing after painting the porch."

Julian didn't like it, not really. He probably would eventually, but for now he didn't understand why he had to do it in the first place as much as it was explained to him. He let out a soft sigh and finished up his sandwich and milk before he held his hands out for Wendell to wipe clean.

"You have paint on your nose," he told the older wolf with a grin.

After he finished cleaning Julian off, he grinned and cleaned the remainder of the paint off his nose. "And were you just waiting to tell me?" he asked good naturedly before plucking Julian off the counter and heading upstairs for that nap.

"It was funny," Julian said with a quiet little giggle.

When Wendell plucked him up, Julian wound his arms around Wen's shoulders and held onto him as a loud yawn escaped him. His entire little body trembled some, then went still. Once they were settled in the bed, Julie chattered to Wendell for a bit longer before he finally just dozed off in the older wolf's arms, his head resting on Wen's chest.
