To Lawson
Wendell was painting the porch. The afternoon had been perfect for it and he'd set up little cones at the front door and a sign asking for people to go through the back door. No one really ever used the front door anyway, so the rerouted foot traffic hadn't been a lot.

Currently, he was finishing the tiny details of the railing, using a small brush to dab the fresh white paint into the crevices. He had smudges of white paint on his face and every time he wiped his brow, he got more paint on himself. But the job was nearly done and he'd enjoyed doing it.

Lawson had been playing outside with Julian. Jeremiah was over at Ever and Emmy's, playing with Kieran, and somehow Lawson had ended up outside with the other little boy in tow. They'd ended up playing with toy cars and my little ponies, which was an odd combination, but Lawson had no problem indulging little Julian's choice of toys.

It wasn't long before Julian spotted Wendell and came over, holding a purple pony in one hand and a black car in the other.

"Whatchoo doing the porch?" he asked curiously.

Lawson came up behind him and knelt down to dust the boy's pants off before she turned her gaze over to Wendell and arched a brow with a smile.

"Hi Wendell," she greeted, "Were you really bored or were you just feeling crafty today?"

"It's almost impossible to get bored here, as I'm sure you've found. I've been meaning to do this for awhile now. Ever since I got back, actually." And that had been a good seven years ago.

He looked down at Julian and showed him the paintbrush. It was just his size, though he didn't expect the little one to do the precision work. "I'm painting over all of the old stains on the porch so that it looks new again." There was actually a blood stain from when Hunter had been kidnapped long ago and no matter how much Wendell had scrubbed, it wouldn't come out. It was gone now, much to his satisfaction.

"It looks great," Lawson told him with a smile.

She was relatively new to the haven. When Ever had found her a while back, she'd been shocked to know she had three brothers, and not only that but werewolves. But she loved them instantly, and it was as if they hadn't ever been apart. She'd only been the haven twice before, but everyone had made her feel very welcome. It was easy since she was a witch and they didn't have to hide what they were at all.

"That's a teeny brush," Julian said as he sat down next to Wendell and handed him the pony. "You can paint the pony if you want."

"How about I paint you?" Wendell grinned and tapped the end of the brush against Julian's nose, leaving a little white bloop of paint. It was easy to tell that he adored the little boy, just from the way he interacted with him. "We could paint you all white so you can see what you look like as a wolf." Teasing, mostly.

He glanced up at Lawson. "How is Kieran doing?" Wendell always liked having women around. He found that they had a wholly different energy and of course, he'd asked her tons of questions about being a witch.

Julian wrinkled his little nose up and let out a soft giggle as he clutched the pony back to his chest. He liked knowing that he was all white when he was a wolf, just like Joshua.

"What color are you when you're a wolf?" he asked Wen as he sat down in the grass in front of the porch and started to play with his pony and car again.

"He's doing much better now that Kellen is back, he's eating again, and sleeping. Well, as long as Kellen is in the bed with him," she told Wendell with a soft smile. "He keeps giving that Quillan dirty looks, though. So does Everett. And Jacob. I think Emmy and I are the only ones being somewhat nice."

"I'm a light brownish gold color." He reached up to touch a lock of his own hair. "Kind of like this." Fur didn't always match haircolor, but in Wendell's case, it matched pretty well. He watched Julian play for a moment and then turned his attention back to Lawson.

"I get the feeling that even I'm giving Quillan more dirty looks then he deserves," he admitted a bit sheepishly. It was true that Wendell had been avoiding the man, not asking him the questions that he would normally launch upon a newcomer.

Just then, Kieran and Miah came into view across the way, towards Everett and Emmy's house. Julian was in his own little world into Miah called him over, and then he got up and took off towards his little brother and Kieran. Lawson watched them play in the distance with her hands on her hips before she let her attention return to Wendell.

"Well, what he did sort of warrants it I suppose," she said softly. "I'm just thankful he saw that Kellen wasn't a monster, and brought him here. I don't think Kieran would have recovered the same if he'd lost him."

Wendell shook his head. "No, I'm certain he wouldn't have ever been the same. I think that--there's something very special about Kieran. He had a dream about Kellen being in trouble a couple weeks before it happened. Have you ever heard of something like that being present in wolves? In my studies, I've found that very rarely do powers such as that coincide with the wolf. It's like the shapeshifting gene dampens everything else."

"Well it's possible that his mother was very strongly psychic," Lawson offered. "And maybe she passed it on to Kieran."

Lawson reached over to try and wipe some paint off of Wendell's cheek, and a warm laugh escaped her. She found it adorable how much Julian and Miah adored him and Hunter.

"Julie calls you Daddy, you know. And Hunter Papa, it's adorable."

The expression that those words brought to Wendell's face made it clear how much he loved that fact. "It's fantastic. I couldn't wait for the next generation to crop up and now here it is. Little ones all over. It's exactly what I needed and what I always wanted, even when I was away all those years I thought about coming back here and being here when there were young ones to raise." And he'd thought about being with Hunter but hadn't dared to hope that the alpha would want him like that.

"I find myself wanting more. Is that crazy? We've got our hands full but I want more."

"You do?" Lawson asked with a smile as she put her hands on her hips. "Are we talking babies, here? Like teeny tiny no talking or walking need their diapers changed and to be fed babies? Have you and Hunter considered having one of your own?"

Lawson was sure that Hunter and Wen loved the little ones like their own, she could see it. Still, maybe they wanted a baby to raise from the beginning, on that was biologically theirs.

Wendell wished that they could really combine their DNA somehow, but he would settle for raising Hunter's baby. Though the question was about the mother. Wendell wasn't sure he wanted a full blooded werewolf. Tes would more than likely carry a baby for them, but Wendell worried about that. Did they really need tiny Austins running about? He'd matured beautifully, but younger he'd been more than a handful.

"Yes, babies. From the beginning." He laughed when she listed off all the work. They were certainly a commitment.

"Then you should do it," Lawson said as she moved to sit down in the grass. She spread out her white peasant skirt. "I wonder if there's a magical way to include both yours and Hunter's genes somehow."

Obviously something like that would normally be absolutely impossible and there would be no way to make it happen, but they weren't normal. And neither was she.

Wendell laughed a little, talking babies put him in an even better mood than usual. The feel of new life was thrilling, made the bad things that had happened to them seem more bearable. "I think babies are complicated enough without trying to break the mold of natural reproduction." He stood up, finally satisfied with the nooks and crannies of that section of paint.

"There's the issue of the mother. Probably the biggest issue. Tes might. Mabel would laugh us out of her diner. Can you imagine a baby wolf demon mix? That couldn't be good."

"I suppose you have a valid point," Lawson said with a little laugh as she let her gaze lower downwards to inspect his work.

"Oh yeah," she added with a grin, "That's probably really asking for it."

It was so easy to see how much Wendell really loved the idea of having a baby of his own and Hunter's to raise and care for. He was amazing with children, and Lawson had no doubt that he and Hunter would be wonderful fathers because they all ready were. She wanted kids one day for herself, but not anytime soon. She'd never really considered being a surrogate for someone else before, but the moment Wendell started talking it sort of hit her like a hammer on the head of a nail. She thought for a moment as she watched Wendell's face, and she smiled a little.

"I could do it."

Wendell had been thinking, considering their options and not even really acknowledging that Lawson was, after all, a woman. When she offered, his face went momentarily blank, waiting for his brain to catch up.

"You could? I mean--you would?" He hadn't been expecting that and his heart started to flutter with the possibility that something like this could really be happening. How delightful and out of the blue and what a generous gift. He hardly knew what to say and it was a big deal to render Wendell speechless.

Lawson thought about it for a few seconds before she nodded her head. Yes, she could. And she would. Why not? She'd always been a giving person, and this was the ultimate sort of gift. It was something that would feel amazing, and be a wonderful experience.

"Yes, if you'd want me to," she told him with a soft laugh. She felt giddy just thinking about the possibility. "I'd love to. I think it'd be an incredible experience and gift."

He stood up, still hardly believing what he'd just heard. Without thinking anymore, he stepped forward and flung his arms around Lawson's shoulders, squeezing her into a grateful hug.

"Are you sure? I can't--I can't even believe someone would offer something so amazing. That's--I just--are you sure?" He kept running all of his uncertainty, questions, and gratitude together in a mish mash of words

Lawson had gotten to her feet and was dusting herself off as everything sunk in with Wendell. The hug came as a surprise, and she widened her eyes when she felt herself being crushed into it. For being a lanky thing, Wen sure had some force behind his arms.

"Yes, I'm sure," she said with a laugh as she hugged him back, having to stand up on her toes to do so. "Really, I promise. I think it'd be amazing."

He released her, realizing that he was probably suffocating her already. "You do realize how many questions I'll ask you--how terribly invasive I can be--and overbearing sometimes. I almost drove Kinley crazy." He was giving her fair warning, but hardly gave her the opportunity to go back.

"There's so much to discuss. I--actually I haven't even really mentioned it to Hunter." He was suddenly concerned that perhaps his mate didn't want more children around just yet.

"Well, that's all right, I like your questions. You've asked a million all ready about being a witch, and about being seperated from my brothers and finding them again and what that was like and just - everything," she laughed softly. "And you have an option to present to Hunter. Just talk to him about it, at least you know there's a way for certain. That's something, right?"

"It's definitely something," he nodded, trying to calm his sudden swell of nerves. This was a good idea, he kept telling himself, this was definitely right. He could feel it deep down; it was like striving for the light at the end of the tunnel, where all of life's trials would be rewarded. "You're kind of amazing for offering, you know that, right? Do you think your brothers will be okay with it?"

"I've never really considered doing it before, but the moment you started talking, it struck me that I'd really love to," Lawson said honestly as she swept a hand through her hair. She tugged her lower lip in between her teeth and smiled a little bit. "It really doesn't matter if they're okay with it, what matters is that I'm okay with it."

Wendell had to stop himself from asking her if she was sure again. Instead, he started to head into the house, beckoning her to follow him. "I have books for you to read. I bought some for Kinley and I ended up keeping a few copies for myself." For his own research because even then he'd been considering looking for a surrogate, but he'd expected it to be farther in the future than now. But it was time and he was certain of it.

"Well, you don't have to read them, but of course I would recommend them. They're fascinating and I suspect they would hit home a little more for you given your gender. Are witches different? I've never known a pregnant witch before."

Lawson followed him, and she couldn't help but smile. Wendell was so sweet, and seeing him so excited was absolutely adorable. This was definitely something she wanted to do, especially seeing how excited he was.

"I'll read them, I'm sure they'll be helpful," she told him as they slipped inside. "And I think we're mostly the same as regular women. We have midwife's though, from the coven. They'll make sure everything is going all right with the pregnancy."

Which was good, considering the fact that it'd be a possible baby werewolf if it was male.
