To Lawson
Wendell was painting the porch. The afternoon had been perfect for it and he'd set up little cones at the front door and a sign asking for people to go through the back door. No one really ever used the front door anyway, so the rerouted foot traffic hadn't been a lot.

Currently, he was finishing the tiny details of the railing, using a small brush to dab the fresh white paint into the crevices. He had smudges of white paint on his face and every time he wiped his brow, he got more paint on himself. But the job was nearly done and he'd enjoyed doing it.

The expression that those words brought to Wendell's face made it clear how much he loved that fact. "It's fantastic. I couldn't wait for the next generation to crop up and now here it is. Little ones all over. It's exactly what I needed and what I always wanted, even when I was away all those years I thought about coming back here and being here when there were young ones to raise." And he'd thought about being with Hunter but hadn't dared to hope that the alpha would want him like that.

"I find myself wanting more. Is that crazy? We've got our hands full but I want more."

"You do?" Lawson asked with a smile as she put her hands on her hips. "Are we talking babies, here? Like teeny tiny no talking or walking need their diapers changed and to be fed babies? Have you and Hunter considered having one of your own?"

Lawson was sure that Hunter and Wen loved the little ones like their own, she could see it. Still, maybe they wanted a baby to raise from the beginning, on that was biologically theirs.

Wendell wished that they could really combine their DNA somehow, but he would settle for raising Hunter's baby. Though the question was about the mother. Wendell wasn't sure he wanted a full blooded werewolf. Tes would more than likely carry a baby for them, but Wendell worried about that. Did they really need tiny Austins running about? He'd matured beautifully, but younger he'd been more than a handful.

"Yes, babies. From the beginning." He laughed when she listed off all the work. They were certainly a commitment.

"Then you should do it," Lawson said as she moved to sit down in the grass. She spread out her white peasant skirt. "I wonder if there's a magical way to include both yours and Hunter's genes somehow."

Obviously something like that would normally be absolutely impossible and there would be no way to make it happen, but they weren't normal. And neither was she.

Wendell laughed a little, talking babies put him in an even better mood than usual. The feel of new life was thrilling, made the bad things that had happened to them seem more bearable. "I think babies are complicated enough without trying to break the mold of natural reproduction." He stood up, finally satisfied with the nooks and crannies of that section of paint.

"There's the issue of the mother. Probably the biggest issue. Tes might. Mabel would laugh us out of her diner. Can you imagine a baby wolf demon mix? That couldn't be good."

"I suppose you have a valid point," Lawson said with a little laugh as she let her gaze lower downwards to inspect his work.

"Oh yeah," she added with a grin, "That's probably really asking for it."

It was so easy to see how much Wendell really loved the idea of having a baby of his own and Hunter's to raise and care for. He was amazing with children, and Lawson had no doubt that he and Hunter would be wonderful fathers because they all ready were. She wanted kids one day for herself, but not anytime soon. She'd never really considered being a surrogate for someone else before, but the moment Wendell started talking it sort of hit her like a hammer on the head of a nail. She thought for a moment as she watched Wendell's face, and she smiled a little.

"I could do it."

Wendell had been thinking, considering their options and not even really acknowledging that Lawson was, after all, a woman. When she offered, his face went momentarily blank, waiting for his brain to catch up.

"You could? I mean--you would?" He hadn't been expecting that and his heart started to flutter with the possibility that something like this could really be happening. How delightful and out of the blue and what a generous gift. He hardly knew what to say and it was a big deal to render Wendell speechless.

Lawson thought about it for a few seconds before she nodded her head. Yes, she could. And she would. Why not? She'd always been a giving person, and this was the ultimate sort of gift. It was something that would feel amazing, and be a wonderful experience.

"Yes, if you'd want me to," she told him with a soft laugh. She felt giddy just thinking about the possibility. "I'd love to. I think it'd be an incredible experience and gift."

He stood up, still hardly believing what he'd just heard. Without thinking anymore, he stepped forward and flung his arms around Lawson's shoulders, squeezing her into a grateful hug.

"Are you sure? I can't--I can't even believe someone would offer something so amazing. That's--I just--are you sure?" He kept running all of his uncertainty, questions, and gratitude together in a mish mash of words

Lawson had gotten to her feet and was dusting herself off as everything sunk in with Wendell. The hug came as a surprise, and she widened her eyes when she felt herself being crushed into it. For being a lanky thing, Wen sure had some force behind his arms.

"Yes, I'm sure," she said with a laugh as she hugged him back, having to stand up on her toes to do so. "Really, I promise. I think it'd be amazing."

He released her, realizing that he was probably suffocating her already. "You do realize how many questions I'll ask you--how terribly invasive I can be--and overbearing sometimes. I almost drove Kinley crazy." He was giving her fair warning, but hardly gave her the opportunity to go back.

"There's so much to discuss. I--actually I haven't even really mentioned it to Hunter." He was suddenly concerned that perhaps his mate didn't want more children around just yet.

"Well, that's all right, I like your questions. You've asked a million all ready about being a witch, and about being seperated from my brothers and finding them again and what that was like and just - everything," she laughed softly. "And you have an option to present to Hunter. Just talk to him about it, at least you know there's a way for certain. That's something, right?"

"It's definitely something," he nodded, trying to calm his sudden swell of nerves. This was a good idea, he kept telling himself, this was definitely right. He could feel it deep down; it was like striving for the light at the end of the tunnel, where all of life's trials would be rewarded. "You're kind of amazing for offering, you know that, right? Do you think your brothers will be okay with it?"

"I've never really considered doing it before, but the moment you started talking, it struck me that I'd really love to," Lawson said honestly as she swept a hand through her hair. She tugged her lower lip in between her teeth and smiled a little bit. "It really doesn't matter if they're okay with it, what matters is that I'm okay with it."

Wendell had to stop himself from asking her if she was sure again. Instead, he started to head into the house, beckoning her to follow him. "I have books for you to read. I bought some for Kinley and I ended up keeping a few copies for myself." For his own research because even then he'd been considering looking for a surrogate, but he'd expected it to be farther in the future than now. But it was time and he was certain of it.

"Well, you don't have to read them, but of course I would recommend them. They're fascinating and I suspect they would hit home a little more for you given your gender. Are witches different? I've never known a pregnant witch before."

Lawson followed him, and she couldn't help but smile. Wendell was so sweet, and seeing him so excited was absolutely adorable. This was definitely something she wanted to do, especially seeing how excited he was.

"I'll read them, I'm sure they'll be helpful," she told him as they slipped inside. "And I think we're mostly the same as regular women. We have midwife's though, from the coven. They'll make sure everything is going all right with the pregnancy."

Which was good, considering the fact that it'd be a possible baby werewolf if it was male.

"We can all take some time to think about it more, explore our options." But it was clear he was already in planning mode, barreling forward as if they were off to the clinic tomorrow.

It struck him that the current little ones might take issue with not being the babies of the family anymore. He would start researching the best ways to introduce children to the idea of having a new baby.

Lawson smiled. She could tell that Wendell was all ready on planning mode, and she had a feeling that Hunter was going to be on board as well. She'd seen him with the little ones, and she knew how much he adored them. The pair were all ready amazing parents, why not have more children around?

"All right, well, when you talk to Hunter let me know?"

Wendell nodded fervently and then gave her another hug. This one, however, was far more civilized, less crushing. "I will," he promised before releasing her.

Lawson let out a soft laugh, and she hugged Wendell back warmly. When she pulled away, Julian was coming inside with a bundle of black fluff in his arms.

"Miah changed again," he said with a serious frown as he looked up at Wendell.

It had damn near caused Julian to shift, too, but he'd managed to hold off somehow and the little boy looked absolutely exhausted.

"He's heavy," Julian added as he tried to hold Miah up to Wen.

"Are you sure you're ready for more?" Lawson asked with a laugh, and it was clear the joke went right over little Julian's head.

Jeremiah had changed with his grandfather as well. The man had pushed a shift, though not harmfully since he was one of the best controlled Wendell had seen other than Hunter. Now it seemed like Jeremiah was popping back and forth all the time. Wendell reached down to pluck the puppy out of Julian's hands.

The frown was sweet and Wendell got down on his knees so he was level with the little boy. "I'm surprised you didn't change too. Did you try not to?" There were good and bad things about that, he supposed. Good because it meant Julian already had a goodly amount of control. Bad because Wendell worried the boy didn't like shifting and holding it back would make the change painful for him when it did have to happen.

When Wendell took Jeremiah from him, Julian relaxed and put his hands on his hips as he tipped his head up to look at the older wolf. Even kneeling, Wen was taller than him.

"I didn't wanna," he said softly with a furrowed brow. "It hurts and this is a new shirt," he added, meaning the Batman t-shirt that Wendell had gotten him earlier that way. "My clothes always get ruined when that happens and I don't like it."

It was obvious that the boy was going to be a bit of a priss, most likely.

Wendell reveled in the similarities between himself and the boy. He'd resisted his first shift for as long as he could and it had been very painful for him. The following shifts had been difficult too, mainly because Wendell hated forgetting things and he hated waking up all dirty.

He grinned and ruffled the boy's hair. "When you get older, it's easier to plan when you want to shift. Then you can take your clothes off first and fold them so that they don't get ruined," he reassured him.

"I'd like that," Julie said softly as he looked up at Wendell and leaned into his touch, and he smiled a little bit. "I don't like ruining my clothes at all. I like my clothes," he added with a serious frown suddenly. "I like things to be neat."

"Nothing wrong with that," he smiled. "Don't worry; I'll teach you all of the tricks to keeping your fur nice and avoiding mud." Wendell was very good at staying pristine. He wasn't nearly as OCD about it as someone like Basil could be, but he did like to keep his civility even in wolf form.

"We're a lot alike," he added, hoping that Julian would like to hear that.
