open to pirate arrrrrrrr [he's probably glaring rn]
Vance hated when Pirate had to work late into the night. He was a little more than spoiled by the other wolf's warmth when he'd crawl into bed at night, and having to go to bed without his mate was disappointing. It wasn't even about sex - it wasn't as if they had sex every single night, it was just about the comfort of having Pirate there.

School had started back up, and Vance was now into his sophomore year. He was about to be sixteen now and it was strange to think that he'd known Pirate for nearly an entire year now. He'd been through a hell of a lot for a boy his age, wolf or not, and sometimes he still had nightmares about being kidnapped and especially about Kenneth. He never let on about them, though, because he felt a little silly. It'd been over six months ago, hadn't it? Sometimes he couldn't remember. Usually when he wokeup from a dream, he just snuggled against Pirate and went back to sleep.

Tonight, though, Pirate wasn't there to snuggle up to and even if he was Vance was in the middle of a dream instead of waking up from it. His entire body was stiff, posture not at all natural for one who was sleeping, and every now and then he'd mutter or whimper about something in his sleep.

	While Pirate knew that Wendell had probably experienced some bad things, he'd never really thought about it before. Slowly, he shook his head. "No, I don't suppose I know what happened to Wendell. 	"Maybe," Vance replied as his eyes opened up, and he furrowed his brow some. "I don't know," he added before he bit down on his bottom lip before he let his fingertips start to draw little designs against Pirate's skin. 	At the lazy little touches, Pirate's eyes drooped. Part of him didn't think he deserved to feel so good in the middle of talking about such things. "What happened to Wendell?" He asked. Now he wanted to know, especially if it related to Vance. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Vance wasn't sure if he should say something now that Pirate had voiced the question. It wasn't his to tell, was it? With a sigh, he rolled so that he was half on top of Pirate, one leg now slung over the older wolf's waist.

"Joseph - he used me to force Wendell to have sex with him," he said quietly after a moment. Saying it like that made him feel so guilty all over again, and his brow furrowed up.

	Pirate nearly winced at the wording. "Jeremiah was there. Do you blame him for what Joseph did to Wendell? Because if you blame yourself, you'll need to blame him too." He was firm with that. 	"Of course I don't blame him, it's - hard to explain," Vance said quietly. He really didn't feel like talking about it anymore, and he went silent as he closed his eyes. He tried not to cringe at the visuals that came with that. It reminded him of how animalistic and horrible Robert had been before Louisa had been able to do something about it. He knew ruthless packs existed--his had been one--but living where they did now, it was hard to believe that someone could be so cruel to a child.

Pirate was glad they were dead. Instead of prying more, he kissed the top of Vance's head. "Feel like you can go back to sleep?"

"I guess a part of me feels kind of glad I was there, because if it'd just been Wen and Jeremiah," Vance said softly before he bit down on his lower lip and went quiet.

At Pirate's question, he shook his head a little bit and pressed his face against the older wolf's chest with a heavy sigh.

"I'm gonna be so tired in school today," he said softly, "I kind of don't want to go," he added, which was odd for him because he actually enjoyed going to his classes.

	It was hard to get back into the swing of school. Pirate kept forgetting that Vance was back in classes. He hated it. But even if he really wanted to encourage Vance to play hooky, he resisted. "I've got to get someone to cover Morris's hours for me. I can't stand not being around to see you enough." He smoothed his hand over Vance's hair. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

When Pirate's hand slipped through his hair, Vance tipped his head to the side and brushed his mouth against the inside of his mate's wrist. He opened his eyes and looked up at Pirate, knowing the sun would be up soon and he would have to get ready for school. He curled up against Pirate a little more with a heavy sigh.

"My head hurts," he said softly. "I just want to sleep in with you."

	"I'll bet Hunter would call in for you if you wanted to stay home for a day. You can't possibly have any tests this early on." And he knew Vance wasn't the sort of person who was going to skip school if he could avoid it. He laid Vance down and rubbed his forehead for a little while, trying to soothe him as best he could. 	Vance closed his eyes again and relaxed against Pirate as he felt his head being rubbed. After a moment, he opened them back up before he wriggled so that he could settle on top of the other wolf. "Lets sleep in and worry about showering later," he added, because all he wanted to do was fall asleep next to Pirate since he hadn't been able to for the past few days. Hearing Pirate say those words made Vance feel warm all over, and he smiled a little against the older man's chest before he lifted his head up and leaned in to press a soft kiss against Pirate's mouth.

"I love you too," he said back before he put his head back down with a yawn. "Really?" he asked, "You don't mind me stealing covers or using you as a human pillow?"

	"I'm used to much more unpleasant sleeping conditions at work," he assured Vance. Catching naps in the backs of ambulances made a bed quite a priviledge. Even better to have Vance in it, the smell of him so close. This was a good place and he hoped Vance wasn't faking it just to make him not worry about his nightmares. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	That was exactly the sort of thing Pirate wanted to hear. He didn't want Vance keeping those things from him. "Good, because that's what mates do. Vance suddenly felt a little overwhelmed. He'd had his mother, but then when she'd died he'd had no one for a while. Now he suddenly had a brother, and a pack, and Pirate. And in a way, his pack, too. He felt extremely lucky, and very thankful.

After a moment, he reached over to grab the cell phone Vaughn had gotten for him and he sent Wendell a text letting him know that he wouldn't be going to school today to let Hunter know, since Wen knew how to work his cell phone just fine and Hunter seemed a little... technologically challenged. After he put his cell back on the nightstand, he closed his eyes and settled back down to fall asleep.

When he woke up, it was almost noon and he could smell something cooking downstairs. His stomach growled and he yawned a bit before he pressed a kiss to Pirate's chest, then he got up to head down the stairs to see if maybe it was Louisa who was cooking.

Louisa was making breakfast, but only because she realized that no one had been awake for breakfast when she'd made it the first time for herself. Deftly, she folded the omelette in half and covered it with the lid of the pan to simmer a little.

"Ah, there you are," she smiled up at him as he came into view. "Pirate's really going to need to get on some sort of day shift while you're in school." Because she understood that sleeping together was important and the two weren't getting much of that.

	Vance smiled sleepily as he went to grab a glass out of the cupboard, and once he'd poured himself some orange juice, he had a seat at the table. "He's exhausted, I won't be surprised if he sleeps until 3," Vance replied before he took a little sip. "I'll probably crawl back in bed with him," he added fondly. "It smells good in here." She nodded. "Back in New Orleans he used to do his best to avoid home. Now I see him racing back here whenever he can. You've made such a nice change in him." Pirate had been her distant pack member. She'd always worried about him adjusting to life as a wolf, even before she'd been alpha. But now, Pirate seemed to be appreciating his nature.

She poured herself a glass of juice and drank it down. "You're the best thing that's happened to him in awhile."

Hearing that, Vance couldn't help but smile as a faint blush creeped up into his cheeks. He let one of his legs tuck up beneath him and he sipped at his juice happily.

"I think he's the best thing that's ever happened to me," Vance said honestly. "I had a crush on him from, like, the moment I saw him," he added with a sheepish grin. "I never thought it'd end up like this, though."

Louisa served up the omelette and set it in front of Vance. It was a massive five egg omelette, cheese and ham and mushrooms. She gestured for the boy to eat up just as Sterling mosied into the kitchen.

"Pirate ain't the best thing to happen to nobody, cher. You just too young to know any better," he drawled. He was teasing. It was just so damn easy to rip on Pirate all the time because the wolf was easy to rile up. Sterling never understood why he was so serious about everything.
