The Kent Farm never looked so inviting to Clark.

He had occupied himself lately by devoting more time than ever to his heroism. It had been a week since he had slept. It seemed like every time he stopped he saw Lois' face, the way she had looked before he flew away. The sadness in her eyes.

There's only one thing to be done when a man's world seems to be falling apart. Come home. Johnathan had sounded wise as ever on the phone, and Clark had decided he had the right of it.

He had spent yesterday helping his father with work, mending broken equipment and making sure the fields were in good repair. He had tried sleeping in his old room but he found he couldn't, so instead Clark went and sat out on the porch to watch the sunrise. He made himself a dark coffee, like Johnathan usually drank, and watched orange-pink light as it came up over the horizon...

"I forgot a lot of things" Clark said, unable to meet Conner's gaze. "I went away for 3 months to visit Krypton- to try and center myself after the League broke up- but when I came back it seemed to backfire. The world needs me more than ever." He turned and looked sadly at Conner. "Someone has to step up and take the world on their shoulders. I drew the short straw" he felt a pang of pain.

And one day, it may have to be you... He hoped that day would never come- that Conner would be able to have the normal life Clark seemed incapable of.

"Hey, just because you're Superman doesn't mean you can't have a life of your own, Clark. I think both you /and/ the world forget that sometimes." Conner says.

"And...just because the League fell apart, that doesn't mean you're the only one responsible for that. Everyone in the League is a member, right? Doesn't everyone get a vote?

Look, all I'm saying is that if you let Lois go through with this, you're going to regret it forever, Clark. No matter how many people you save or how many super-villains you punch out, you and Lois are a team.

Both of you have a choice in that, too." he says.
