Robert Queen/Merlyn ([info]hunters_moon) wrote in [info]dc_nextgen,
"Okay, you didn't kill the Green Arrow to take the name. That's fine. So, he either trusted you to take up the name or you didn't give him a choice. Either way, the old Arrow isn't what I'm interested in." Merlyn says.

"You're the Green Arrow and I'm Merlyn. Right about now, we could pull our bows, walk ten paces and shoot at each other until one of us dead and the other is bleeding to death, but I don't want to do that. The last generation played that game and it wasn't productive.

What I'm suggesting is an alliance of sorts. We don't get in each other's way. Tonight, you killed a man and I walked away from it without saying a word. There are lots of other men out there that deserve to die, just like the Artist. You and I aren't heroes like that Batman guy or the Justice League. They wait until the bad guys do something, /then/ they go out and capture them." Merlyn explains, keeping his tone conversational

"You and I both know what that leads to. They do a little bit of time, then they get out and go hurt or kill someone else's family and the cycle starts all over. What does it accomplish, though?" Merlyn asks him, trying to engage the Green Arrow's mind rather than his moral compass in this discussion.

"How many times do you think the Artist was arrested between his murders? If someone, /anyone/ had taken him out, a lot of the young women who died because of him would still be alive right now.

Mia would still be alive right now, Green Arrow. If you don't believe me now, just wait. Those crooks and thugs out there are getting wise to the fact that all these heroes have their 'no-kill' rules. What reason do they have to be afraid if they know that they'll just go into the system, get three hots and a cot for a few months and then get released to do it all over again?" Merlyn asks.

"They won't be afraid. You know it and so do I. What you did tonight was take the first step in peeling off those blinders that the world lives with. Those people are /heroes/, but men like you and me? We're hunters. We get the scent of our prey and then we harry them until they've got nowhere else to run. Then we make sure they never hurt anyone else's girlfriend, mother, wife...or sister." Merlyn says.

"Tell me you understand that, Green Arrow. Tell me you're not going to go turn yourself in out of some misplaced sense of guilt." Merlyn requests.
