Break Out
Keith sat in his cell with restraints and a device on his neck that prevented him from using his sonic scream. They took all of his equipment and locked it away in a safe. His dad was on his way to visit him, which wasn't something Keith looked forward to. Killing the Artist quickly became Keith's biggest regret. He had screwed over not only himself, but his entire family. How was he supposed to make this up to them? He didn't know, and he was just about ready to give up on everything.

Keith enters the den and finds himself in an opulently furnished room with several silk rungs and paintings on each wall.

An oak desk sits before Keith, with a laptop computer and webcam equipped. On the screen is the face of Damien Wilson, the Demon's Head.

"Good morning, Keith. I am sorry I could not be there to meet with you in person, but I had pressing business to attend to elsewhere. I am glad to make your acquaintance, however. It is very clear that you and Robert are brothers; you both favor each other." Damien says, sipping on a vodka martini.

"Would you like something to eat or drink?" he asks. "My cooks will prepare you anything you like."

"You cut to the chase, Mr. Queen. I like that. I hear your father is much the same." Damien says, setting down his drink.

"Robert has bargained for your safe passage to a destination of your choice, Keith. However, my...hospitality is not free. I require a favor for you, as I am harboring a fugitive." Damien says.

"Agree to my request and you can return home to your family with a clear conscience, along with the ability to say that you have a friend in the League.

I...would also like to be able to say that I have someone who can intercede with Roy Harper on behalf of Lian and myself, Keith. Do you know that she is carrying my child?" he asks.

"Lian and I have a bond, a connection that transcends mere words Keith. Even if I /wanted/ to leave her alone, she is in my blood, as I am in hers." Damien says.

"Have you ever been in love, Keith? Have you ever known a woman you could not let go, no matter how much you wished it?" he asks.

"That is what Lian is to me. She wants to come back to me, but your father and your brother would speak against it. They would poison her against me. Now, you could go back to them and tell them that I treated you well, like family, because you are.

Lian and I are married, Keith. She is my wife." Damien says.

"That's a lie!" Keith shouted back.

"Love is about putting that one special person before yourself and thinking about them above everything else that's happening. You have to put her best interests before your own! But you aren't doing that at all! Dad and Roy are right to keep you away from her.

Lian can't live in your world. She knew that and she left! She made it a point to stay away from you, and yet you still came after her. And then what did you do? You killed her best friend! You killed him because he was putting Lian's interests before his own!

You don't love Lian. If you did, you wouldn't hurt her so much."

"Do NOT presume to know my heart!" Damien snarls suddenly.

Keith had managed to strike his nerve, talking about Lian. Damien loved Lian more than anything in his life, which was why he /had/ to get her back.

"Cerdian of Atlantis stood between an assassin and his prey. He received the payment that all receive who make that folly, Keith. He is not the saint people would see him as, either! He tried to murder one of my people.

I find it interesting how you so-called heroes can justify murder when you do it 'for the greater good', but when I kill someone in defense of my people, or as part of contract, I am somehow the scum of the Earth." Damien says.

"Tell me, Keith...do you think it was right for the Artist to die? Did you stand-by and watch his death because 'it had to be done'? Or did you kill him because you wanted to watch the light fade from his eyes?" Damien asks.

He was getting madder.

"I... I wasn't thinking about what I did! I didn't make a decision! I reacted because I lost control for a second, and that will never happen again!

And Cerdian... Cerdian was no killer. He was protecting Lian from you and your goons! And let me tell you something else, Damien. Cerdian could have taken all of you out without killing a single one of you. If he threatened to kill, it was to make you back off. But I guess the League of Assassins doesn't know a bluff when they see one, huh?"

He was probably digging himself such a hole. But it felt so good to just let it all out. Damien was the perfect focus for all of his anger about what had happened.

"You and your League... you're all monsters. You all make the decision to kill people because you all like it. And you, Damien-- you're the worst of all. You aren't just satisfied with killing people yourself. You have to bring Lian into your mess, even though she doesn't want to be!

Just leave her alone! What did she do to deserve somebody like you?"

"You and I are not so different, Keith. You call me a monster because I kill, but you have done the same. You made an informed choice to kill. You know what you are capable of every time you pick up your bow and arrow.

Your brother, Robert? He is a killer, too. Taught by one of the world's /best/. Is he a monster, too?

Speaking of Robert, you and I should be honest with each other. He's a cancer on both of our families, Keith. All he does is make for one more distraction our fathers can't afford, taking their attentions from their other children. But do not worry, Uncle-in-Law.

I am going to do the both our fathers and you a favor: I will make sure that Robert Queen doesn't live long enough to become an issue that diverts attention from our lives.

My sister will deal with him handily and even dispose of the body for you. In the meantime, /you/ will return to Star City and assassinate Councilman Vontrell Griffin II for me.

Do this and your debt to me is paid in full. Fail, and...Interpol might learn of the Green Arrow's whereabouts by the end of the week." Damien says.

"By the way, Keith, a word of advice. Murder is much like love-making.

It gets easier after the first time." Damien says.

And then the screen goes black.

That fucking tears it.

"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Keith shouted at the blank screen. He nocked his bow and released an arrow so fast, he wasn't sure if he had picked the right arrow. But the capsule on the end broke off and it connected with the laptop, which exploded.

He turned around and ran out of the den. He needed to find Robert, and fast. Keith was not about to let his brother die. He used his sonic scream to knock down wall and readied an arrow for use against whomever was attacking his brother.
