Dinadan doesn't lower his sheathed sword yet, or take his brimming eyes off of his friend. He opens his mouth to swear to destroy the people responsible for what happened to Jai, but hesitates when the conversation takes a turn for the nihilistic.
"I'm sorry we didn't get there sooner, my friend," he says solemnly. "But tell me what you can about those who kidnapped you and I swear, I will bring them to justice so that you can rest."
He's still afraid, but the scales are tipping toward compassion. It seems like his friend is bound to his corpse by anger and bitterness, and that isn't something Dinadan would wish on his worst enemy -- and not just because it would make them that much harder to take down.
"Come on Jai, tell me what you can."
