Jai is definitely keeping Dinadan from concentrating on getting any smaller, but repeated blows to the head -- even blows cushioned by protective limbs -- do make it harder to feel anything beyond stunned confusion. It's even hard to keep a firm grip on fear in this state.
Dinadan doesn't know how lucky he is for that.
