Cait woke up with sunlight pouring in her window. It didn't feel like it was her birthday and she didn't feel a year older. Actually she felt a few years older. So much had happened in the past year and very recently that it felt like a few years had passed instead of one.

She needed to swim and be in the water for a bit. She felt too dry and for her that was a bad thing.

Swim, shower, and food in that order. Then she may be ready to face the day. Mother and Father would most likely be paying a visit, they did every year on her birthday, and Cait needed all the strength she had to face that.

She stretched and something crinkled. Puzzled, she looked over and found a newspaper on the bed next to her. She picked it up. Blinked.

A very loud squee could be heard coming from Cait's room.
