Um... Hi.
He'd been suspicious the moment Rosie'd said GK'd called her up and 'given permission' for Jed to come and check on him in Star City. Of course Rosie'd asked him to.

At "So, how about lunch with my buddy Zoe and her Mom? Better than hanging around in my apartment. It being in a basement and all," Jed was pretty sure he knew what was going on. He wondered if Mom and Rosie'd offered to raise the kid's allowance or something.

At "Ms. Torres, this is my Uncle Jed. Uncle Jed, Zoe and I are going to go ahead and get some shopping done. See you soon," Jed.... considered suggesting Mom and Rosie raise the kid's allowance.

"Happy." Michelle smiled. "Doing something she loves, and out of the Triangle. Hopefully with a college degree. Everything we want for them. The same you want for GK?"

He nodded. "Pretty much. We're glad he's already on the right track for knowing what he wants. And Rosie's finally started to stop worrying that he takes too much after his father. Kid never even met the little bastard."

It was something Michelle knew all too well. Zoe had Floyd's cold reserve, but not, she hoped, his utter disregard for anything but 'the contract'. Floyd's excessive vices for alcohol and drugs seemed to have skipped Zoe, something Michelle gave thanks for nightly.

"Zoe's father was killed in gang crossfire when she was three," she said quite truthfully. "He was a good man in his way. He left enough to take care of us while I went back to school and raised her."

"Glad to hear he had a sense of responsibility," Jed says sincerely, quietly. "My mother's lawyer didn't want to man up to his mistakes and committed suicide before GK was born. But money hasn't been an issue in our family since I was 12, which is good because Rosie wouldn't have touched his on principle."

Floyd had been responsible, in his way. She would always be grateful for it. "GK appears to not have suffered from the absence of a father. Sometimes the best thing that can happen is an absence of an unsuitable parent."

"Very good point. Zoe seems to've turned out all right, too, not necessarily saying good riddance on your family's account."

Jed looks out the window. I think that may be them now.

She looked as well. "They're probably loitering and wondering if everything is all right. I wonder if we dare torture them."

Jed laughs. "I'm game."

"I think I'll make Zoe model any clothes GK talked her into buying," Michelle decided with a laugh. "I'm not going to tell her you were anything but gentlemanly. She wouldn't take that well."

"Yeah, that doesn't sound healthy."

"You've been a surprisingly good sport about it all. Not too many uncles would be pleased if their nephew pushed them into lunch as a fix-up."

Jed chuckled. "It's not the first time I've been set up. GK's at least got better judgement than his grandma."
