He blinks a little as it occurs to him that she seems to think he was only saying it to be nice. "Oh! No, I meant it. Really. I'm not just saying it." He rubs the back of his head and cringes a little thinking he managed to screw this up quite quickly. Great, if only he could be less awkward. "I'm sorry if I...I'm sorry!" Perhaps she took it badly? Wonderful, this was going downhill fast from his point of view. Well there goes that attempt at not making it more awkward.
