Dinadan doesn't groan or bury his face in his hands when the conversation takes a sharp turn at Pippiville, but it's a near thing. He restrains himself to closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. When he opens them again, the look he he gives Director Vance is one of profound sympathy.
Pippi does, however, bring a very good question to his mind.
"So," Dinadan says, "what's the catch? I'm not saying that you and your bosses don't have the best interests of the world at heart; but no government body offers a bunch of super-powered kids money, information, and real estate for free. Why us? Why not someone older, with more training or experience? Or less training and experience, but more respect for authority and willingness to follow the chain of command?"
And, though he's not going to voice this question yet, how much, exactly, do these people know about them?
