An Offer She Can't Refuse (He Hopes)
There's a knock at the office of one Cynthia Lord, by an unassuming (besides the green hair) young man, carrying two clothing boxes under his arms. "Miss Lord? I'm sorry to interrupt, but I'm your two o'clock." Riley grins. "Two o'clock until two-ten anyway. Can I interest you in a little field trip while I roll out a business proposition of sorts for you?" He jostles the boxes with eagerness.

"Of course." Riley smiles as he puts down the boxes and shakes her hand, then gets out the recall transmitter for the Time Sphere. It appears in the office, it's usual spartan interior marred by a circular changing curtain. "You can slip into yours on the way." He passes her the orange box, keeping the yellow one for himself. Inside, Cindy will find an appropriate dress to 1940, maybe just a year or so behind the fashions, appropriate to a working class but economically stable household.

"Business history." He smiles. "I was considering taking you back to the sale of the first share sold of a publicly traded company, but the Dutch East India Company was kind of a bunch of jerks, to be honest..." He calls through the curtain, changing after setting the destination.

"So I've got something a bit closer to home in mind. Now arriving.." He does the last of his buttons as a flash of light heralds their emergence into another point in time and space. "San Bernardino, California, May 15, 1940."

"As opposed to an imperial lumber corporation." He makes the bad joke, because he's Riley, grinning at it." He tosses a handful of era-appropriate pocket change. "Ten cent hamburgers, and all you can drink orange juice for five cents." He sets down in a vacant stretch along the highway, camoflaging the Sphere and offering her his arm. He adjusts his hat and gives his suspenders a test with his free hand.

"Can't let a pretty young girl go around unescorted circa now anyway."

There's a familiar glint of L-embossed gold on one of Riley's fingers, before he covers it with the end of one worn sleeve. "We're good, but I'm not expecting any trouble like the World's Fair. I made double sure with Rip this time." They walk the short distance to the restaurant, proudly advertising its 'Speedee Service' produced food on its opening day. There's a few local gawkers and patrons, but it's not the mob scene modern day restaurant openings generally garner.

And you can smell real grease and lard as soon as you walk in the door. In Riley's football and track-and-field carbo-loading life experience, this cannot be emphasized enough.

"Two hamburgers, and an orange juice each for me and the lady." Riley smiles politely as he hands over the change when they meet the cashier.

As they get their burgers, Riley still regards the rest of the menu options, inwardly lamenting the streamlining of the service away from all the barbeque items.

"Well..." They sit down, and he takes a testing bite of his burger as he gathers his thoughts. "We don't have a date set yet for the wedding, but it'll probably be within the next year. I've got plenty of friends, but nobody that I really think of as having my back as much as you... let alone any guy friends that come close, so...

I was wondering if you'd like to be my Best Lady." He grins sheepishly"

"Thank you! I'd hug you if it wouldn't cause a scene. That can wait until an allegedly more enlightened time." He grins, finishing his burger. "Now, I'm thinking ribs. You in? I've also got a spare costume back in the Sphere to dress up as a local reporter and grill the manager, if you want to come up with any questions and then ride shotgun for an interview."

Hey, when he shamelessly panders to a friend, he goes all the way.

	"Uh... dunno. Probably just city hall. Parents, you, whoever Dinah asks to be maid of honor. We'll probably do some kind of reception to have a party. Riley just blinks, then tries not to choke on his orange juice in laughter. "Of course that's what you break it down to... You might have a point... after all, we're only planning to seal this contract once." He gives Cindy an amused look.

"I just don't think either of us has ever really thought about it. I mean... well, Dinah's more coding and stun-guns than corsages and satin, and for the longest time I never even really... y'know, thought about being romantically involved with anyone.

...would you have any ideas?"

	"Location is important. Even if you do go to the courthouse... we talking the Gotham City courthouse, or in the suburbs, or do you two have some place that's special to you?" She grins. "There's the playground in between our houses. That's where we'd always meet up once our parents let us leave the houses by ourselves. Default regroup spot in case anything ever went wrong on patrol." He nods, sipping his drink. He smiles at the mention of Jim. He'd met Grandpa Gordon at a few holiday parties between the Kord and Carter households.

And now that was going to be his grandpa too. Huh. Life.

"Not on the Bug. This is going to be a costume-free wedding and reception."
