At Least They Can All Agree on Tacky Flamingo Lipstick, Probably (Zoe, Pippi, Harry)
In a step up from nagging state legislatures, Uncle Jed was going to testify before a U.S. Senate committee. This had become a Walker family trip. Walker family trips now included the Torres family. As much as he loved Mom and Grandma, it was a relief to get a bit of breathing space again, with the perfectly reasonable explanation of dinner with a fellow makeup artist. He'd talked to Pippi one or two times since they'd met in passing. The last had been right after his breakup, and when he'd mentioned he'd be in town, she seemed game for dinner. So here they were, in a nice restaurant,as he smiled appreciatively at Zoe for coming along, in the outfit he'd suggested. "I hear the food here is great. And it'll be a while without Grandma asking us if we've met any nice guys."

"If I tell her nice guys make for great target practice, she might suggest you get a cat instead," Zoe suggested, quite reasonably for her. DC had the same feel the Triangle did, you just didn't see the crimes happening on the corners like you did at home. It was close enough for Zoe to relax.

"The food here is wonderful!" Pippi agrees, assuring the waiter that, yes, its all on one check, and she'll take it.

She's about to say something further, on it being brought up and thus brought to mind - but apparently it would be a bad thing at this dinner for some reason, so she doesn't bother asking Harry if he's met any nice boys lately, or if he could use some help in places to go.

"I know some really good places you could get a very nice cat. Or find you one that fits your personality." she offers, helpfully, instead.

Harry would appreciate her refraining from that line of questioning, if he knew that's what she'd been thinking of. As it is he stays quiet until Pippi offers help with finding a cat. "Umm...I'm not sure he's actually looking for a cat," he tells her quietly while looking at GK with a slightly worried look that was both checking to see if he'd been right on that front and telling him he'd make sure no kittens made it to his doorstep as well intentioned presents.

Prissy countertenor giggling. "Yes, cats are great. But not in an extremely confined space with an antique dollhouse. So, let me make sure I've done introductions right. Zoe Torres, Pippi Peppers. Pippi's in the process of going pro as a stylist -- and your hair still looks incredible. And ...Harry, Pippi said? Sorry, I didn't get a last name."

Zoe tried to look non-threatening. It wasn't easy. She nodded at Pippi and Harry.

Pippi, at least, certainly doesn't look threatened. "Going to school... and thank you! You must give Zoe a lot of advice. Her skin is amazing. You'll have to tell me what you use on her lashes to highlight her eyes like that."

"Oh. Sorry! Reesen, Harry Reesen," he smiled in his characteristic slightly shy manner and stood up slightly to offer both of them his hand in turn.

"Good to meet you." GK will indeed shake his hand with his own exquisitely manicured one. He'll be unable to resist grinning brightly at Pippi. He'll apologize to Zoe later for letting her be a shop-talk example. "Thank you! Well, y'know, she's gorgeous to start with, but the trick is minimalism. No actual mascara, just some tightlining with a properly sharpened eye pencil." And he'd been lucky to get that much, and sworn sacred oaths that there would be no mascara. Ever.

Zoe's own manicure was short and unvarnished, but she shook hands anyway. "I don't like fussy," she added to GK's explanation.

"Hopefully a spa day isn't too fussy for you then. Really opening your pores now and then can do a lot of good - especially for perfect skin like yours. Harry, I did get them a each a spa day as a present, right? I was pretty sure it was that, and not kittens, right?"

"You did, and yep spa day not kittens," he smiled and nodded. He'd triple checked that beforehand to be sure. Turned out being a worry wart of sorts could be useful for a job actually.

"Aw, thanks so much, Pippi. That's very thoughtful. And a good plan, too. Kittens are great, but they shouldn't be a surprise." He smiles sheepish-reassuringly at Zoe. He can always take Mom instead if she's not comfortable. He also makes a note to send her some of Uncle Jed's animal photography; return the thought.
"So how do you like Washington, Pippi? Like I said, we're here a couple of days while my uncle nags politicians."

"That's very thoughtful," Zoe echoed. Spa? Did they touch you in a spa? She didn't want to ask. It would be embarrassing.

"I don't know. Some people would never know they loved cats if it weren't for surprise kittens. But still... spa days are good. I love Washington - I came here a few other times, mostly when Mom was shooting some commercials. Her company figured they could use the whole 'clean campaign' thing around an election to help sell soap and shampoo."

Harry nods in agreement about the kittens being nice but not as surprises. Surprise pets were a consideration when working for Pippi, not exactly something he expected when he'd first signed up.

Glad they weren't talking to her now, Zoe quietly sipped her water and listened intently to the conversation. She wouldn't learn about GK's world if she didn't pay attention.

"School is wonderful. Except the books and reading. And scheduling - though Harry does that now. And the homework, except when its applied homework, then its ok. But I get to play with hair and makeup, so that's ok. And I'm getting ton of portfolio work in!"

"Yeah, well the practical and the portfolio are the most important things; it's an art and a trade, after all. As long as you can handle the apprenticeshippy side of things, it's okay if you're not as good at treating it like a straight-up academic discipline. That's what I figure, anyway."

"Just finished," he smiled politely. "Now I work for Pippi full time." And had the New Guardians thing too but he had a secret ID so that wasn't really a conversation point here. "Are you in beauty school too?"
