The Boyfriend's Smell-Test
Henry Jordan is skeptical of Katima's friend Alerron, but he's willing to give him a shot, if for no other reason than Katima's asked for it. Which brings him to the center of the Pacific, tracking Alerron's signature.

Alerron Yat is aiding the Coast Guard in evacuating the people from the pleasure boat, hoping that he came soon enough to save the young boy among them. He's been on this planet for several days now, but there is no shortage of people to help.

Henry will find him as the last person has been evacuated and the boat sinks beneath the waves. The people thank him for helping them, which gracefully demurs from.

He lifts off into the sky, and starts to head off to find more people to help when he spots the familiar glow of the Green Lantern. He doesn't see the Blue one with him, but there's no way to know how this one will react to him outside the presence of his friends.

It was an odd request, but Alerron figures it behooves him to get to know the man that Katima shares a bed with. It will make things easier on her if they can work together.

"Very well. Lead the way and I will follow." Alerron says. He doesn't gather that Henry might be talking about him. Perhaps Katima told him that Alerron is a good judge of character.

"Pizza a true mark of friendship. My mother once told me that pizza is a sacred food shared with friends, Green Lantern. Is this true?"

	Alerron has never had to hide who he is, and dislikes doing so now, but he has already learned many people on this planet bear anger toward those of different skin colors. "And don't worry about Blue... he's nervous around new people. And, let's be honest: your request to let criminals go wasn't something that generally gets on the good side of law enforcement." "Please understand that I respect the Green Lanterns, all the Lantern Corps, but there are places where even your people will not go. Places where your light does not shine. Those mercenaries come from one of them." Alerron says.

"Some statements must be made in other ways." Alerron says.

When Henry says it will be just them, Alerron nods. "Well played, Green Lantern. You are very convincing.

I believe your friend's dislike of me has something to do with Katima, but I cannot be certain. She has told me who you both are to her." he says.

He shrugs, leading them into the restaurant. Loud music blares, and there are posters and paintings all over which many native to Earth would recognize as rock album covers from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. "You can believe that, but Avalon's initially suspicious of new people as a rule," he declares loudly, over the sound of the din. He turns to the hostess. "Two, please!"

The hostess starts leading them to a booth.

The sounds assault Alerron painfully and it takes several seconds for him to adjust his hearing to normal levels.

"Perhaps, then. It matters little." Alerron says, following them to a booth, then sitting down.

"So...you have me here, Green Lantern. What do the tapestries on the walls symbolize? Which rulers and reigns?" he asks, finding himself interested in knowing who ruled Coast City before and now.

Henry chuckles. "Neither. They're album covers -- art that accompanied popular music. That's Abbey Road, by the Beatles," he points out. "That's Crazy Train. Ozzy. That's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John. There's the Bee Gees, there's Aretha Franklin, there's Johnny Cash..."

They take a seat under Johnny Cash's poster, and each are handed a menu. Once they're left alone, Henry looks over at the prince. "Do you need help reading the menu?"

Alerron has thought about this himself many times, because even on Okara, he did not know what he would do the rest of his life.

"I do not know. I have not considered that far ahead. I suppose that I would return to New Tamaran and learn about my station. But I also wanted to learn more about the universe and the other species out there.

I do not know what I would do next." he says.

Alerron tries on the root beer and his face contorts in distaste.

"This is revolting." he says, swallowing the first sip. Then he takes another.

"Positively revolting." he says, handing Henry back his drink. He takes a big gulp of the fruit punch to wash away the taste of the root beer.

"Hmm. I cannot think of any other questions for you currently, though...I would like to ask how long it might take to find allies to aid us in rescuing my mother." he says.

"It cannot be a huge strike force. We will need to find a balance in our choices."
