The Wrath of the Chimera
The great and might Chimera was flying around the city of Metropolis. It spouted fire from its lion head as it flew closer to the ground to attack the masses.

If no one interfered soon the Chimera would live up to its gruesome legacy.

Sally had been walking down the street, hunched over in Granny Flores's old overcoat again.

And... there was a firebreathing monster flying around.

Panic-inducing, certainly, but it doesn't appear to be the kind of panicking that makes her run or freeze.

There's a small young tree, tall but quite thin, growing along the sidewalk. And somehow she just knows -- 'knows' -- that she could hit this thing with it. That she's capable of using it that way.

Sally sets her hands on it and braces herself.

"Excuse us, young lady." There's a white-gloved hand layed gently on the girl's shoulder as Zach steps past. One of Shadowcrest's trouble alerts had gone off, and intervening had taken priority over the investigation.

He sets his focus on a nearby hydrant when the chimera swoops in. "Tnardyh, tsrub!" Water explodes, streaming up at the beast's maw. One of them anyway.

"Another one," Victoria said in an annoyed tone of voice. "This is becoming most serious."

"A pleasure to see you again, Salome, though I fear this is a business visit."

While Zach focused on one head, she concentrated her own power bolts on another.

"Hello, Miss Craft." She's barely gotten the little tree hefted out of the ground, using it like a stick to swat the thing with, when she can already start to feel it. The hunger. She knows if the general populace hadn't been run off, they'd be staring more than usual -- well, of course they would, but even without the spectacle of monster-fighting, she figures.

"Friend of yours?" Zach inquires of Victoria over his shoulder, eyeing the...

quite simply stunning young woman.

Well that was an abrupt thought. He forcibly returns his attention to the chimera, keeping the water focused on stopping any more flames, and hopefully soaking the beast's wings enough to bring it to ground.

"Well, Miss Craft? Your banishing place or mine?"

Blast. Salome would be expending energy, energy she would need to replenish. And she'd already managed to influence Zachary, however briefly.

The wings of the Chimera became to soak to fly and it landed roughly. Still breathing fire it charged at the group. It was finding the poking to be getting particularly annoying.

Zach keeps the water pouring into the chimera's face, trying to keep it's vision obscured, then, he spots his next tool.

The water cuts off sharply, hopefully knocking the beast fighting against it off balance.

"Drof, hsurc eht retsnom!" An SUV goes flying into the air, then comes down on the monster like a hammer onto a tent spike.

"I never did care for American vehicles."

She brought up both hands and concentrated, drawing upon the mystical energies at her command.

"Creature of darkness... I command you to be gone!"

Zach rolls his eyes and puts a hand on one hip. "Not my first rodeo, Vicky." He gestures to the twisted heap. "Riaper." The gas-guzzler creaks and twists itself back into shape, even going back to how it was double-parked on the side of the street.

He regards where the chimera vanished from. "Tucked away somewhere secure, no doubt. No aftershock. Nice work, Craft." He nods to her, then turns to the young lady.

He looks at her, eyes glazing over for just a moment, before he raises a hand to his chin. "Now miss, you are...?" It's a question about identity as much as about nature.\

This is all so weird, but what isn't lately. And oh gosh, she feels so hungry. And hormonal. Both. More.

"Sally Roth," she says, staring at him hungrily, as much as she doesn't want to be. "...You're a superhero, right, Mister...?"

One of these days, that attitude of his was going to get Zachary in considerable trouble. A part of Victoria hoped she was around to see it.

Her concern right now, however, was Salome. "He is Zachary Zatara," she explained.

"You need to feed," she said, simply.

"World's Greatest Magician." He adds on after his name, without missing a beat.

He tilts his hat back slightly, still appraising the girl. The charisma around her is just palpable, enough that he can almost feel his feet sliding towards her of their own accord. It's not surprising, she's a looker after all, but it's more than that.

"Are you some brand of enchantress, or-- Ah." Victoria's words bring it into focus. A little bit more 'girl next door' than he'd expect for a succubus, or variant thereof, but it makes sense now. Nothing a little focus, indirect eye contact, and a ward if she starts doing anything on purpose, can't compensate for.

He finally nods to Sally. "I try to avoid calling myself such, Miss Roth, but I do commit the occasional daring act of heroism."

Zachary would likely recover faster than an ordinary individual, Victoria admitted to herself. More importantly, she preferred to allow individuals to make their own choices whenever possible.

So she said nothing.

Well... well yes, that does feel rather...

WOAH.

Zach doesn't quite need to be caught, but it's a bigger headrush than after coming up from water escapes. A lot more pleasant too.

He clears his throat and loosens his collar a bit, but seems mostly fine. "I... I need a bottle of gatorade and my girlfriend." He manages a chuckle, catching his breath still.

"Aside from the monsters having a common mythology, we haven't been able to pin down a pattern. It's quite possible at this point that this is just some lunatic god or goddess' idea of a good time." Zach shrugs, finally settling down again.

"An organization, sometimes loosely so, sometimes tightly knit, of various magic users and other supernaturally touched," she explained hastily. "And she is not a new member."

"No, but she should be." Zach retorts. "Even without you being you, coincidences when the stakes are this high and still rising, aren't something I put a lot of stock in.

She's here the same time as a monster attack, and the particular one we happen to show up at, after just discussing how magic is starting to roll uphill. That's enough of a sign for me.

And if that's not enough, we need every pair of able-bodied hands we can get whose mind isn't going to shut down at the notion of facing something occult."

He turns to Sally. "Miss Roth, the cool kids need your help." He flashes her a grin, turning the Zatara charm on.

Sally is going to charitably chalk the quality of Mr. Zatara's lines up to the fact that she just gave him a mild case of 'hypoglycemia.'

"I don't know if I'm right for the club, but I don't mind helping and I might as well get used to being around this stuff. Maybe good practice reeling it in."

Victoria thought for a moment that she would be ill, listening to Zachary's lines and attempts at charm.

"As much as it pains me to admit, Zachary, you are not without your point."

She changed her attention to Salome. "At this time... it probably would be safer for you to be with us. But the decision is yours."

"Daddy? I'm fine, but tell Dad I'm not going to be home on time. I'm with Miss Craft. Yes, I'm fine. Love you too. Bye."

Hardly an ideal set of circumstances, but ultimately, sometimes one had to chose from less than preferable options. Though she rather suspected Zachary would be insufferable for some time since she admitted--reluctantly--that he had been right.
