He doesn't want her associating flying with anything bad when he's trying so hard to get her to share his joy of it. So instead, he zooms in on the locations they need to go to, and begins the quick teleport incantation.
"I'm sending you directly outside Atlantis, so don't panic when you're underwater, it'll be outside their warded areas. I'll be in Massachussets. Telepathically contact me when you're ready to be brought back?"
