Vertigo took several quick steps back, away from the Captain, while Zoe attacked him. He cut his effect, being unable to focus it enough to just affect the him.

He kept his knives at the ready. If he saw an opening, well, he was certain good enough to go for an eye, even on a possibly invulnerable opponent.
