They had all met during the ordeal with the Titans of Myth--some before then--and decided collectively that they should talk. Percy didn't understand the intentions of the others, but he was there as requested.

Victoria resisted the urge to roll her eyes at Zachary, instead telling Sindella, "thank-you," and sipping her coffee.

"Independently and together, we all operated effectively during the recent crisis with the mythological monsters," she said. "In times past... and in times current, various mystically inclined champions have banded together in the cause of good. Fate brought us together. We would be foolish to ignore it."

Zach just gave Victoria his best smile, before kissing the top of Sindella's head and helping himself to tea. "Thank you, princess."

After a long sip, listening to Victoria starting, he speaks up as well.

"Miss Craft and I believe that, while this is not the beginning of a new Age, the ebb and flow of magic is strengthening. More occult threats will surface. More latents will discover their talents.

To answer this call is not, as they say, 'fighting the good fight'. It is responding to the worst creation has to offer. To combat things that are not named because to do so only gives them more strength.

And yet, if we are the ones fate has called, then that means there is no-one else who can do it."

He lets a meaningful pause hang, looking around to meet the eyes of each person present. "We are the Shadowpact."

"And being blatantly honest?" Zach shrugs.

"This is a Call. You're going to wind up in the thick of it no matter what you do, so it works better for all involved if we're at least on cordial terms with one another."

A pause, and a mild snort. "And no satellite looking down, I assure you. I can give you all passes to use a pre-arranged room within Shadowcrest as a bolt hole and meeting place; with Sindy's blessing of course." He nods to his cousin.

"Well, that's unfortunate, Blood, because destiny believes in you." Zach shrugs, before turning to smile at Sally.

"You will find your courage."

He nods to Victoria. "I always kind of thought it easiest to think of destiny as chunky peanut butter. Some solid parts surrounded by a lot of malleable parts. The solid parts can shift around if they're pushed, but they're still always going to be there."

Their arguments about destiny didn’t convince him at all. He would have said so but he honestly didn’t care. Let them believe what they wanted but he didn’t believe in destiny.

Mike started laughing at the bit about courage. He had courage plenty of it and wasn’t afraid of whatever such a team would face. He was going to go with they just didn’t get what he was apprehensive about.

“I’ll tell you what, for my great grandmother I’ll join for now but if I don’t like what I see I can’t say I’ll stay.”
