Chemistry was one of Thoreau's best classes. It was a lot like cooking. You followed a recipe and paid attention to all the intricate little steps and in the end you got exactly what you wanted from it. Plus, he was pretty good at math too so that never threw him off. The only thing that was a problem now was that he and Pansy had been lab partners since they'd started dating. They'd been having lecture classes up until today and it hadn't mattered, but Snape wasn't the sort of professor who let you switch partners because of a break up.

He sighed as he sat next to Pansy, trying not to think about her screwing his best friend. "Hey," he said. "You're here."

Thoreau frowned at Pansy. "I think it's your fault that you started snogging my best friend behind my back instead of breaking up with me first," he told her. "I think it's your fault that the two of you got caught."

He shrugged, starting to get the things they needed set up at the station. "I'm gay. We weren't good together. That doesn't mean you fucking Theo was kosher. It wasn't. All the flailing about my sexuality won't make that okay."

"None," Thoreau snapped. "I snogged Draco once, when I was wasted, because he was crying on my shoulder, and he was the one who initiated it. I never did anything else with anyone else."

He stared at her for a moment when she told him he needed to get over it and called him a homo, then slammed his textbook shut. "You know what? I'm not feeling well. I'm ask you to tell Professor Snape that for me, but I don't trust you anymore." Thoreau stood up, trying to ignore that the rest of the class was blatantly staring at them now. "Maybe Daphne will let you partner with her and Theo."

Pansy frowned at that and stood up, grabbing his arm. She dragged him out into the hallway and frowned at him. "What is your problem? Why do you get so mad when I tell you the truth?"

She shook her head. "I love you, Thoreau. And the only way we're going to get past this is if you just accept that things turned out this way because that's how they're supposed to be."

"Do you think I'm upset with you because we're not together?" Thoreau asked. "I'm not. This has nothing to do with that or us being broken up or you figuring out I was gay before I did. I'm upset because you cheated on me with my best friend and everyone found out about it before I did."

He frowned back at her. "I don't know why you think that means I have a problem, or what you think the truth you're telling me us, but that's why I'm mad at you. Because I love you and Theo and neither of you gave enough of a fuck to keep it in your pants until after we broke up."

"No, it wasn't." Thoreau frowned at Pansy. "I wanted to try and make things work with you. That's why I asked you to stay. If you were already that sure you didn't want to be with me, all it would have taken was a bit of insistence that we shouldn't be together. Just... fuck, Pansy!:

He paused for a moment, trying to calm himself down so he wasn't yelling in the hallway. "Just stop acting like you didn't do anything wrong. That's worse than what you actually did. Acting like I should have expected you hooking up with my best friend. Like I deserved it. I know the sexual side wasn't there and relationships need that, but I was really fucking good to you."

"I'm not saying that I didn't do anything wrong." Pansy told him as she looked up at him, shaking her head. "I know what I did was wrong, but I don't feel horrible about it. I won't feel horrible about trying to make myself happy."

She chewed at her bottom lip. "I wanted to make it work with you. Because, I love you. I wanted you to love me the way I wanted to be loved."

	"I don't think that either of us should apologise." Pansy told him, then sighed and wrapped her arms around his waist. She held him tightly, not wanting to let go as she felt herself start to cry. Thoreau hesitated for a moment, then wrapped his arms around Pansy and kissed her forehead, laughing a little. "I don't know how I feel about being your teddy, but I've missed having you around. You and Theo, if I'm being honest."

He looked over his shoulder at the Chemistry classroom, then down at Pansy. "I know it's important, but do you want to ditch class so we can work on us for a bit?"

Pansy nodded and leaned against him for another moment before she pulled back. "I'd love that." She told him, then sighed softly and pulled back to look at him. No one would ever replace Thoreau.

"Let's get your father to cook for us." Pansy suggested with a soft smile. "And then go shopping for a bit. And have a coffee. I didn't have time to get one this morning."

Thoreau laughed. "Gossip Girl is going to think we're back together," he said, taking Pansy's hand in his. If they could both get over their hurt, they could get back to everything that had been great about their relationship, without worrying about the kissing or the sex.

He led Pansy down the hall and out of the school. "Dad's at home today," Thoreau said. "But it's close to noon. He'll make us lunch and then we can get coffee and shop. Maybe I'll tell him I'm gay. I want to tell my parents before a blog does and I'm done a couple Draco-level stupid things in the past couple days."

Thoreau snorted. "You mean Draco obviously shagging a professor? Mine is... Actually, I don't know where mine ranks. Mine kind of confuses me."

He looked at Pansy, enjoying the familiarity of having her hand in his, making fun of Draco together. "I met this guy, Radley, and he's really great. He's a few years older than us, but he went to our school. And, anyway, I kind of lost my virginity to him. Then the other night I called him after seeing a post about you and Theo because I was feeling really upset and he invited me over and then this... threesome between him and me and his twin brother happened. And his twin is our history supply teacher and we kind of hooked up after school and then I went to their flat, because they're room mates, and Radley was upset that I'd shagged Rooney again and I think Radley and I might be a thing, but I don't know. It's really confusing. Rooney didn't seem at all upset about anything. He says they share."

Pansy stopped walking and looked up at Thoreau. She slapped the side of her head and shook her head, giving him a look the clearly said he was an idiot. A huge idiot who deserved to be smacked like she'd smacked him.

"What is wrong with you?" She asked, shaking her head. "That's ten times worse than what Draco is doing. I actually gave my blessing for Draco. You're just being stupid. A threesome with twins and shagging the supply teacher?"

"I said it was bad," Thoreau said defensively. "You're giving me the look you gave Draco when he showed up at your house high. Please don't tell me this is that bad."

He sighed. "My life has kind of turned into porn since we broke up. I had sex with my masseuse, then I had a threesome with twins, then my professor shagged me on his desk. When I slept with Radley the last time that was normal, though. That was just sex."

"You're the only person I've told, Pansy," Thoreau said, shaking his head. "I told Neville I'd slept with the supply teacher before when he showed up for class, but I didn't tell him it was during a threesome with his twin. I'm not stupid, despite the evidence to the contrary."

He let go of her hand so he could wrap his arm around her instead. "I trust you not to tell. If I go down, I'll do my best not to drag you down with me."
