I can already tell this isn't going to end well.

What gave off that impression? It could be a good story.

Stories about brothers always end in how they turned on each other.

That doesn't mean it's a bad story.

It depends on the storyteller.

Do you like good stories, about betrayal?

Only when they include revenge.

The dead can't get revenge, can they?

No, but their loved ones can.

How noble. And what it this dead brother's only loved one was the one who killed him?

Then I guess the bastard's the victor.

Those are my favorite kinds of stories. Where the bastard wins and all hope is lost. Even better is when the hero dies, and all who dared to oppose the bastard are left without their precious leader.

To like those kinds of stories you must have no humanity.

Or a good sense of entertainment.

Not if you're left with a hopeless feeling when it's all over.

Who's hopeless? That's a happy ending.

Too bad it isn't true.

Because you identify with the bastard?

I wouldn't have killed my brother, so I'm not the bastard. I'm the hero.

What makes you the hero?

My astounding selflessness. And overwhelming desire to do... what's right. Haven't you sensed it already?

No. I more got the feeling you're the manipulative type.

If that were the case, then I'd be manipulating you already, wouldn't I?

You would be trying.

Heroes don't manipulate, they protect. Don't be silly.

And just what are you protecting?
