sunspot ([info]sunspot) wrote in [info]marvel_nextgen,
Dae felt the backlash during the middle of a lecture. He was on the floor so fast that all of his students had to do a double-take before they realized what happened. His nose was bleeding, and he was brought to tears by mental barbed wire wrapping his brain and spinning around it like a bike chain. But he stifled any vocal display of pain as best he could and clutched his head.

Some students huddled around him while others fumbled with their cell phones to call 911, and then others ran for med students and the clinic on campus. Dae recognized scattered words as his students asked him what was wrong, but his mouth was sewn shut, lest he torture them with cries of pain.

It took time, but the pain was subsiding. He let his mouth open, and his lip bled momentarily until his regeneration ability kicked in and mended the small wound. Dae's body was shaking as he stood, and some students offerred their bodies as leaning structures. He gratefully accepted help from one of the young women. He could hear them better than before, but he could hear a new voice entering the room.

"Professor Dallas!" exclaimed the clinic nurse as she rushed over to him with a bag of supplies. "No, no," he insisted, "I am perfectly alright. It was an episode of a medical condition in my family. I simply forgot to take my medication this morning."

"All the more reason to have a look at you," she told him, moving a hand under and up his shirt with one of those metal objects to moniter his breathing and heart beat. She moved her other hand to his neck to feel his pulse there as well, to confirm her reading. His heart rate had indeed been elevated by the mental backlash, but there was no longer anything physically wrong with him outside of intense shaking and drying blood and tears on his face.

"I simply need to take the rest of the day off," Dae informed the nurse, but she was putting up one hell of a fight. By the time he was finally able to convince her to leave him be, his body had stopped shaking, and the residual mental pain had gone away. He had dismissed his students from the classroom, but many had remained standing outside of the classroom to watch his small argument with the nurse. It was around that time when he heard sirens outside of the building.

"Miss, please," he insisted again, "I am doing fine now. It was simply an episode of an existing condition, of which I know inside and out. I will be fine for the next few hours until another episode will occur, before which I will have taken my medicine. Please leave me be so that I may have some peace."

The nurse mumbled some words not suited for the students to hear, even if they were adults. But she finally left into the hallway, and Dae closed the curtains on his room. The men and women in the ambulence arrived not much later, but Dae was no longer in the classroom. He had evacuated via teleportation, something he rarely used. There was something wrong, and he needed to know what it was.
