Ripples
The Eternals had always been a race that sought out the cold. It didn’t come as a surprise that their two cities of Olympia and Polaria were situated in the coldest climates on the planet. Olympia was in Antarctica, well secluded in a very desolate location. Only the most hardy and stubborn of humans would hope to find the city and even then the residents didn’t like interlopers.

The Eternals were a reclusive race, but there were a few who ventured out to mingle among their cousin humans.

Another race, the deviants, were another creation of the Celestial, were the enemies of the Eternals. They wanted to enslave the humans and rule the Earth. The deviants had always been stopped by the Eternals, but the shift of power was now changing.

The Deviants were stronger than they ever had been. They didn’t have the numbers they had had in the past, but now they had powers they never had. Powers that could now help them stand up to the accursed Eternals.

They climbed out of the cold waters and onto the ice shelf and headed for Olympia. An ally waited for them not far from the city.

Today was the day the Eternals would fall and the Deviants would start their rise to power.

Skromm let the normal deviants lead the charge. They were fodder. Let the Eternals get over confident and think they are fighting one of the normal battles they have had through the millennia.

Skromm and the rest of the special deviants would follow and destroy the Eternals.

The battle went as predicted.

The generic deviants were slaughtered before the Eternals. Before their numbers could be completely decimated, the genetically altered deviants came into the battle.

The tide shifted. The Eternals, always dependent on their superior powers, were driven back from the onslaught of the deviants with powers and abilities to almost match their own.

Grugulus, recently resurrected by Franklin Richards, destroyed buildings as he went.

When the tide shifted, the Eternals drew back and regrouped. Individually they were all formidable, but a trait unique to their race allowed them to all merge into one being, the uni-mind.

All of the Eternals merged and became one in mind and powers.

The Uni-Mind turned its considerable might on the attacking deviants.

It was the sign Shattered Dreamer was waiting for. She felt the very powerful mind brush up against hers. Her powers kicked in and the being seemed to shimmer for a moment before turning into a very bright light. Then the light radiated outward along with a psychic blast.

The uni-mind split into individuals and they fell comatose to Earth.

The deviants cheered when the hated enemy split apart and the individuals fell to Earth.

They stormed the city and destroyed anything they could.

Fortunately, there was at least one among Olympia who was not an Eternal, and thus not a part of the Uni-Mind. The Eternals had been his friends, much more so than the Deviants ever had. Karkas would fight for them with his dying breath.

The Deviants were monsters. And while the rest of the Eternals had been drawn into the Uni-Mind, there was one who, fell, might have been forgotten.

And he was the legendary slayer of monsters.

Hercules, Herakles, Beowulf, and others. He had been known by the names of many other heroes. But he did always have a fondness for Gilgamesh!

Far away, on Earth, the backlash is felt. Lucas is shaken from his meditations, tumbling forward in the middle of his drawn circle. When he pushes himself up, his hands are shaking, and he realizes he both has a nosebleed, and he's crying tears that are already stained with dirt.
Something is very, very wrong with the natural order, and Earth Mother is recoiling from it. But he doesn't know what.

For Rachel, who's telepathic powers are barely a glimmer, it's little more than a headache. But a sudden, pounding one all the same. Like a surge of psionic energy across the planet.

In New Orleans...

Lyta sat up in bed with a start. Her whole body was shaking, her breathing labored, and she was in a cold sweat. Something terrible has happened, and she can feel it. She doesn't know what, but there's something not right.

Still shaking, Lyta climbed out of bed, threw her bathrobe on over her nightgown, and made her way down to the kitchen, to grab a glass of water to at least attempt to clear her mind. She doubted she'd be going back to sleep anytime soon.

He had barely felt the psychic shock of the Uni-Mind. The Rider is somewhat sensitive to such phenomena, but its more about protection from it.
Its as he's pondering that, that certain other cosmic events are occurring. As he's about to greet Lyta, Nick's hands catch fire, then his skull - except he's not the Rider. The kitchen fills with the smell of burning flesh and hair, as a great wrong occurs, and the dead return to life. The soulless living battles with the demon, before both are overwhelmed. Nicholas passes out, his human form returned and healed, but the charred smell remains, and his wide open, but unseeing eyes are still blazing with hellfire, as are the pentagrams scarred into both hands.

Yeah, things just got worse.

Lyta was still shaking as she went to grab a glass of water. She gave a Nick a weak smile as he entered the room, and then her eyes went wide as she watched him burst into flame. She started to shake uncontrolably as the battle went on around her, the glass in her hands slipping out of them and shattering into a million pieces on the floor. Her heart was racing when the fight ended, and she found herself slumped on the floor. Seeing Nick passed out on the floor, she crawled over to him, not noticing the prick on her skin when one of the shards of glass made contact with her hand. Her head was pounding. "...Nick?"

His head lolls to one side, eyes still flaming bright, as are the pentagrams on both hands - thankfully facing upward, so nothing is catching fire yet.
Still, the glass that shattered and landed in his hand has melted completely and fused to the flesh, no doubt its plenty hot.

Its not real coherent, but he's mumbling something. The only discernable word in it being "Hell."

Franklin, too, felt the backlash. He was physically put to the floor. As he got up, his body was heavy and his insides felt like they were twisting. A powerful psychic force had just been broken down, and it terrified him to tears. He didn't know anything more than that.

Franklin was disoriented and still shaken by the event. "I-I... don't know," he told her while whiping his eyes, but he couldn't stop the tears and clutching his stomach. "S-something big just t-took a f-final hit. The p-psychic backlash..."

And so she sat, trying to cover her ears as her brain listened to a tritone on C played on three different instruments at ten decibels.

Julian Gallio was speaking with his mother when the he felt the sting of pain in his head. His connection to Selene began to waver, and for the first time since he'd learned about his telepathy, he tasted blood on his lips as he felt the pressure against his mind.

"Mother...what is happening?" he asks.

The threads of fate are fraying, my son. Fools with too much power and too little sense unleash forces they cannot fathom and the center cannot hold.

You will need to act sooner than you anticipate, or there will be no safe haven left for any of us.

Julian clutched at his head and tried to drive the backlash away, but he couldn't shake the fact that he heard fear in his mother's voice.

That scared him more than what he would soon see outside.

Dae felt the backlash during the middle of a lecture. He was on the floor so fast that all of his students had to do a double-take before they realized what happened. His nose was bleeding, and he was brought to tears by mental barbed wire wrapping his brain and spinning around it like a bike chain. But he stifled any vocal display of pain as best he could and clutched his head.

Some students huddled around him while others fumbled with their cell phones to call 911, and then others ran for med students and the clinic on campus. Dae recognized scattered words as his students asked him what was wrong, but his mouth was sewn shut, lest he torture them with cries of pain.

It took time, but the pain was subsiding. He let his mouth open, and his lip bled momentarily until his regeneration ability kicked in and mended the small wound. Dae's body was shaking as he stood, and some students offerred their bodies as leaning structures. He gratefully accepted help from one of the young women. He could hear them better than before, but he could hear a new voice entering the room.

"Professor Dallas!" exclaimed the clinic nurse as she rushed over to him with a bag of supplies. "No, no," he insisted, "I am perfectly alright. It was an episode of a medical condition in my family. I simply forgot to take my medication this morning."

"All the more reason to have a look at you," she told him, moving a hand under and up his shirt with one of those metal objects to moniter his breathing and heart beat. She moved her other hand to his neck to feel his pulse there as well, to confirm her reading. His heart rate had indeed been elevated by the mental backlash, but there was no longer anything physically wrong with him outside of intense shaking and drying blood and tears on his face.

"I simply need to take the rest of the day off," Dae informed the nurse, but she was putting up one hell of a fight. By the time he was finally able to convince her to leave him be, his body had stopped shaking, and the residual mental pain had gone away. He had dismissed his students from the classroom, but many had remained standing outside of the classroom to watch his small argument with the nurse. It was around that time when he heard sirens outside of the building.

"Miss, please," he insisted again, "I am doing fine now. It was simply an episode of an existing condition, of which I know inside and out. I will be fine for the next few hours until another episode will occur, before which I will have taken my medicine. Please leave me be so that I may have some peace."

The nurse mumbled some words not suited for the students to hear, even if they were adults. But she finally left into the hallway, and Dae closed the curtains on his room. The men and women in the ambulence arrived not much later, but Dae was no longer in the classroom. He had evacuated via teleportation, something he rarely used. There was something wrong, and he needed to know what it was.
