In the final moments of the shield, as it flickers and fades under the assault of the gathered foes, a horrible transformation takes place. Halbjorn, and the others who have succumbed either to the madness, or to the grim reality of always facing down their own death, living, literally, to die, chew at their shields, howl and roar like beasts, clutch their weapons so tight that their hands bleed.
As the shield comes down, this is the first tide that strikes the enemy, even as they begin their rush. They are the bear-sark, few in number, but their fury leads them to fight, heedless of their injuries, until they fall. And strongest and swiftest of this bloody tide is the son of Thor.
By the time he wades into the demons, axe swinging in a wide arc, he's not a humanlike thing anymore. He's a howling beast, uncaring of life and death. There is only slaughter.
Within seconds, he disappears from all sight into the demonic masses.
