"I don't have to, Jordie tells me I'm short all the time." Mason grins and does the little drum-snare with his fingers on the edge of the table softly.
He shrugs and leans back in his seat. "I'm not trying to be negative, really, it's just that Jordie was always so popular with girls, and I didn't know how to talk to them at all. I mean, obviously I got a little over that. It's a lot easier when there's fewer of them around, just you, Mel, and Emily." He grins sheepishly. "You're just a lot prettier than I expected the first girl I dated to be, and you're smart, and really nice. Jordie... didn't really have the best track record with girls so far as smarts."
He coughs into his hand. "I guess what I'm trying to say, without derailing or sounding stalker-ish, is that I like dating you, and being your friend. I'd like to keep dating you, and not other people, if that's alright." He pauses.
"That would probably sound a lot more charming if I hadn't already pointed out there's only really two other girls around. Seriously though, if I ever seem like I'm putting myself down, it's cuz I don't want you to feel like you have to put up with me or I'll go all moody. I'm tough."
