The deadliest of all sins... Boredom
Adrian sat in his jazz club Papa Gumbo's, playing idly on the piano. The bar was moderately full, but he was more bored than anything. There was no challenge to life, no thrill to anything. He lived a life that most mortals would be happy to, yet he was less than content.

That probably had to do with the fact that he was a demon in mortal's clothing and had been doing it for far, far too long. He had been doing this for at least fifty years, though how many for sure, he wasn't exactly sure. Long enough for him to be getting tired of it all, that was for sure.

His shift was near an end, and for that, Adrian was glad. Just as he was finishing up his set, his replacement player was standing nearby. Adrian didn't like the man, but that didn't mean he was rude. For a demon, Adrian was quite respectful when he wanted to be.

"Ey Sin, ya'll almost done? How were the tips t'night?" the man asked as Adrian stood and stretched his spine. Green eyes turned to the man, and for a moment, Adrian considered his answers. The tips had been good, but Adrian also tried to minimize his interactions with his coworkers. It made his life harder when people thought they knew him too well.

"Tips were okay. You wanna stay in ragtime mostly.. They're not very entertained with anything before 1950." he said in a low tone, before gathering his bag and moved away. Adrian was hungry and at least after every shift he was afforded a meal. He slid onto a stool and dragged long fingers through dark hair before he sighed and let his shoulders slump.

Did demons have mid-life crises? Considering that he wasn't anywhere near the middle-point of his life, he didn't know what to think. But life sure was pretty dull, it wasn't nearly as bad as life in Hell, but it was really really boring. And he was really bored.

"I wish I had more to say, other than that I am sorry." murmured Adrian then, his green eyes turning up to meet her red on black gaze.

Adrian was struck with his desire to know more, to welcome her in to his life more... to make friends... but then at the same time, he didn't want to have to.. hurt her. Adrian was quite aware of what a monster he was, and that conflict within himself was starting to rise, to make the music flowing from him much darker. Like a crashing stormy ocean.

"I suppose it's best to have that attitude.." he finally said as his eyes turned to the keyboard, watching his hands move across the white and black keys.

"If ah didn' 'ave dat attitude, ah t'ink ah woulda been dead by now." She shrugged her shoulders. The music turned to a dark and dreary tone suddenly, but that did not change her stance or where she was by the piano. "An' you don' need to be sorry... it jus' happened, fact o' life, could be worse."

Alisa sighed, resting her head against the piano now, as she looked at Sin. He was so handsome, and he actually talked to her, and even blushed. This was so odd. First Argo, now this... perhaps things were really turning around after-all.

Smiling a bit, Adrian just let his eyes follow his fingers, his tone low and soft as he said "Could be worse.. indeed."

There was a flash of something, of the way the light caught his eyes, reflecting the light back from his retina much as a cat's eyes might. If Alisa was astute and had paid attention to his wording.. he had never included himself with any sort of "normal" person. Shifting a bit, he rolled his spine in a bit of body language that didn't seem quite normal and then offered the girl a bit of a smile that seemed almost.. too sharp. Lie if a great cat or some big predator were smiling at Alisa, though he meant her no harm.

"I have to remember that myself.. often. It's.. a lonely place that you and I both live." he then replied in a soft, almost sun tone.

Alisa did take notice of his eyes. Though she did not show fear at them, merely curiousity as she tilted her head and look at Sin some more. The way the light effected his pupils was like that of a cat. Perhaps he was not quite human like herself.

"You seem so acceptin' ... like you know what it's like to be different, mah friend." She also took note of how he shifted, and how his back moved some. It was unlike anything she had seen before... and she had seen alot! "Oui... it is a lonely place out dere, Sin. Sucks most o' de time... but like ah said many times, we jus' gotta make de best o' it."

"I have no reason to not accept anyone for whom they might be. I'm quite aware of what a monster I am; I'm just wearing a pretty skin so you can't see it." he then said softly, his eyes never going back towards Alisa's.

He suddenly paused, then scooted over a bit and said softly "you can have a seat if you want.. I don't mind sharing." His offer came innocently enough. Adrian was caught in a spell that Alisa wasn't even aware she had cast. Then again, he was starved in that way - for people to talk to who felt safe the way that Alisa did. It felt strange how he would find kinship with a human girl, but he wasn't about to look at the situation negatively.

"Have you ever played an instrument?" he then asked, his eyes finding her face, his lips offering a bit of a smile. He was a strange thing, the way he swung from one extreme to the other..

This caused Alisa to raise an eyebrow. She slowly took a seat next to Sin, looking down at the piano. "We are all monsters, Sin... in some way or form. But it don' mean we gotta prove people right an' live like'em."

She bit her lip as he asked her if she ever played an instrument. That was an easy answer to give him, but it still made her feel timid. She was a genius, self proclaimed and tested... yet she could not play a piano or any instrument. Sure, she could touch one, know how it worked, how it functioned... but playing required talent that she did not have.

"Non... ah ain' never been trained to play any instruments, Sin. Heck... ah come here an' jus' eat. Don' really stay long for de music... since ah try an' get back before ah'm missed, you know?" She smiled shyly, resting her hands on her lap. Alisa's eyes were focused on the keys of the piano. How beautiful they looked, and how skilled Sin's hands looked moving along them.

"Every song only has 7 notes..." he then murmured, settling his fingers over the board and played a simple scale. "Every song is built from these notes, although sometimes they are higher or lower than the original scale.. But they are still the same notes."

Grinning to her some, he then motioned to the keys, his fingers playing a scale as he said softly "This is the C scale.. or middle C.. The most common key signature." If she were brave enough to bring her hands up, he helped her get her fingers positioned. "Try it.." he encouraged.

She was indeed brave enough to place her hands on the ivory keys of the piano. They felt slick, even a little cold. Her red on black eyes focused down at her own fingers, just feeling the keys.

"So... each song is jus' seven keys? Really? Ah never knew dat... den again, ah ain' put much t'ought into music. An' mah powers make feelin' dis piano a lil' werid. Ah can actually "feel" de piano. It's workin's... it's parts... almost like lookin' into someone's soul an' knowin' what makes'em tick."

Alisa was relaxing more, which was hard for her. She was still used to having a high guard, but since she met the Champions, Argo, and Nick... she was slowly easing into society again. But she was moving a bit fast. Instead of barring people completely, she was letting almost anyone in. There seemed to be no balance at the moment, but she could care less. She felt happy, free even.

"Well - every song is combination of these seven keys, or their relative octave up or down." replied Sin with a bit of a smile to the girl. Talking about music settled him and grounded him. It helped him focus on not being nervous and still.. connect.

Smirking a bit, he started to play a bit lower, playing harmonies to the keys that Alisa depressed. Where she saw the mechanical side of the piano, he saw the musical. His voice was soft when he said "I do not have quite such useful powers.. I am just driven mad at times and must let it out, or else I might explode.. The music is a living, breathing thing inside of me. It speaks far more eloquently than words at some times."

"Ain' all great artists driven mad by dere muses?" She raised an eyebrow, gently pushing down on her keys and trying to follow the notes she heard, and the keys that Sin pressed down on. It was very hard for her to try and figure out what to do... she could not read notes, so she was playing by ear.

Sin seemed to have made her forget about her meal that Louis was getting for her. If anything, he had her seduced by the tone of his voice, and the hauntingly beautiful notes he played on the piano.

"This is more than just a muse.. It's in my blood, a part of my soul.." replied Sin, as he shyly looked to Alisa. The usually brash and uncaring man was usually made shy why he spoke of himself. He was acutely aware of what an abomination that he was, and that often made him unwilling to share too much. Lest whomever this new person in his life find out the truth and run screaming from him.

Honestly he wouldn't blame them. It had happened before.

Tilting his head to the side, Sin said softly "It's like your powers, just.. different. It's as much of me as your powers are a part of you, but it's.. useless in many ways. It's a madness that I must fight, and it doesn't seem to do much more than simply entertain others. While the thought of being able to entertain and still be highly skilled while doing it is nice, it is impossible. These people sitting here don't want to hear my creations. They come here to ear Cajun food and listen to jazz. And not even good jazz but the over played over popularized songs that I'm sick of playing."

As his lips closed, Sin suddenly realized he had been ranting. He gave a nervous little laugh and then said softly "Sorry.. My geek was showing.."

"Well... from what ah heard, ah like your music. It feels more powerful den de normal stuff ah hear in de quarter. Like it comes from de soul." She smiled more, her slender fingers still moving over the ivory keys of the piano. "An' it's alright... bein' a geek ain' a bad t'ing you know. Dere non enough geeks in dis world, an' too many stupid people."

She seemed very much at ease trying to follow the notes he played. She could not believe how life was changing for her. for the good, the bad, and the better. So many new friends, so many new events... perhaps it was good that she finally let herself out of her shell.
