Picking up the pieces (open)
Lyta sat on the window seat in her old room at Xavier's. Her wings were folded in and she was holding a knee to her chest.

It had taken several tries and several bottles of the best hair dye that she could get her hands on, but she'd gotten her hair back to its original color. Her feathers remained a shade of gray, a sort of sick reminder of what she'd done when her mind was under the control of Apocalypse.

No one blamed her, they said. It wasn't her own doing. Her mind wasn't under control.

Didn't mean that she still couldn't kick herself in the ass about it, though.

She'd called the Champions earlier to tell them that she was taking a break from the team. That she needed to clear her head.

Her door was shut, but not locked. She hadn't thought to lock it. Right now she just wanted stare out the window at the setting sun and forget about everything that had happened for a little while.

"Yes, but I didn't want them to happen to you. I only want for you to be safe and happy."

"I know. And you're the greatest Dad in the world for that. But you already knew that." She kissed his cheek.

"You make the dad gig easy by being such a great kid." He hugged her again, this time lifting her off her feet a little. "Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Is there a chance that I could maybe borrow the jet for a little while?" She asked, giving him a sheepish smile.

"Of course. All you had to do was ask. Where are you going?" He paused. "And with whom?"

"A couple of places...Paris, Rome, a couple of other cities in Europe, maybe some of the islands." A pause. "With Misha."

"Oh? Something going on between you two? Do I need to have a /talk/ with him?"

Out of all the boys she could be seeing, Misha was one of the good ones. The kid was grounded and Warren knew what kind of upbringing the kid had. He wasn't totally objectionable.

"You could say. Before all of this happened we um..." She paused, her face turning red as searched for the right words to tell her father.

"Honey, there are some things a dad doesn't want to know about his little girl. As long as he treats you well, which I know he will, I'm okay with it."

She relaxed. "Good. And he does. He's always been one of the greatest guys that I know."

"I will give him that. He is a good guy. Is it serious?" He had to ask and yes, he already had prenups drawn up. Those had been locked in his desk since she was an infant.

No dad was ever entirely pleased at the thought of his little girl getting serious with a boy, but if it made her happy Warren was willing to live with a little uncomfortableness.

"I only want you to be happy, princess. And if he makes you unhappy, well it won't be pretty."

She laughed. "Just...promise me you won't drop him off the Empire State Building or anything, okay?"

"Well darn. There goes those plans." Warren smiled. "I promise I won't drop him from the Empire State Building." There were other high buildings in the world.

"The woes of having a daughter that can read minds, right?" Lyta smirked. Though she'd never poke around in father's brain without permission.

"I worry about you, princess. Has your mother come to see you?" He had to ask. Betsy wasn't exactly the most maternal type of woman, but Warren had hoped she would have visited Lyta and be there to support her through this.

"I know you do. Part of being a parent, I know." She shook her head. "She hasn't. At least, not yet." You could never really tell with Mom, though.
