Getting down to the heart of the matter
May had hopped on the first subway to Queens that morning.

She was tired of hiding the truth from her parents. She was tired of just breaking up muggings, knowing that there was more that she could do with the powers that she had inherited.

She was going to tell her parents about Spider-Girl today. And she was going to tell that she fully intended on staying as her, even if they didn't want her to. May had a gift, and she wanted to use it to help people.

Just like her Dad did.

She'd called them earlier to tell that she wanted to talk about something. Something important.

When she arrived at home, May took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell.

Here goes nothing...

With May’s words something happen that didn’t happen very often something that villains had been trying to find a way to do since Peter first started fighting crime to when he retired unsuccessfully. Peter Parker was struck speechless unable to say anything.

He just sat there staring at his daughter, he didn’t know what to say, she was right and he did not have any high ground to tell her otherwise.

MJ took a sip of the mug of coffee that she had in front of her.

While she had fully supported Peter as Spider-Man, there wasn't a day that she hadn't worried about him when he was out on a patrol, or away helping out another member of the hero community. A part of her had been glad when her husband retired when May was a baby. A small part of her had always hoped that May wouldn't inherit her father's abilities, so she wouldn't have to worry about her daughter going down the same path as Peter did.

Still, there is the hint of a smirk on her face at her husband speechless.

The silence was making May feel just the slightest bit uncomfortable.

"Well?" she said, smiling sheepishly at her parents, "Do you understand. I have to do this."

As he came back to his senses he had to admit she was good a real chip off the old block. While he knew he couldn’t stop her from doing this, at least he could try to make her as safe as possible.

“Well if you are really set on doing this May then I think we should set some ground rules ok,” Peter says calmly.

MJ nodded. "I agree. Though you may not be living under our roof, you're still a minor."

"Okay. What sort of rules are we talking about here?"

“Well for starters if you ever find yourself in over your head, call for help,” Peter says matter-of-factly before saying some more logical and commonsense rules.
