"I've always had that," she said as her hand covered his. This brought up memories from eighteen years ago, but this time around it felt a lot different. They had both grown up, became more responsible and somewhere along the way gained a little wisdom. "What I never had until now was a true partner. Someone I can trust without hesitation and have complete faith in." Her hand squeezed his.
"You know me," she said with a rueful smile. "That's what you were thinking. This is one of the few years in my seventy three years that vodka hasn't been a part of my life. It's a big change for me." She smiled. "Lots of big changes lately."
While she had never sank into the depths of alcoholism, by most standards she had been a heavy drinker. She could polish of a bottle of vodka without thinking or noticing.
