Melinda almost snaps at her,interrupting, but bites back... and listens.

It's obvious, really. Of course other people have been hurt. But no one had actually said that to her yet. The thought hadn't even occurred to her.
She considers a moment. "I... don't mind trying a new foot again," she says quietly. "I'd rather not hate my roommate."
