Tech Heads Unite!
Sydney leaned over the table, carefully working on the circuits inside the Beetle-suit's right glove.  The circuit linkages had been running a little slow the last few times she'd tested them, so hopefully this would sort that out.  While the suit did employ some cybernetics, it also relied more heavily on simple linkages and feedback responses, allowing for certain movements and muscle responses to trigger certain actions from the suit itself.

It would never be in the same power-class as the Stark armor Anya wore, but in the short term, it could fly rings around it.  Speed and agility prioritized over sheer power.

If she could get the damn linkages fixed.

"Is it difficult getting in and out of your suit?"

Bit of a personal question there, isn't it? Sydney thought, but she didn't voice it. She was... touchy, she admitted, when it came to issues of her independence.

"Probably not as easy as it is for you," she replied.

"I'm sorry," Anya said apologetically. "I didn't mean to offend."

The nanites continued to do their job. Anya could sense the short in the circuitry.

"I asked because I had an idea, if you're willing to hear it."

Sydney shook her head. "Don't... worry about it. I'm just... touchy sometimes."

She gave Anya a curious look. "I'm listening."

"It's understandable. I was touchy when I had my mobility issues."

Anya paused a moment to think about how to put this without being offensive.

"I've noticed your armor really isn't that portable and given mobility limitations and restrictions, why not combine them somehow? Incorporate your chair and suit into one thing? This way you have your suit with you at all times and getting into it wouldn't be a problem. One consideration though is a matter of your identity possibly becoming public."

"You?" she asked, curious and probably crossing some line but not especially concerned.

She gave the idea some consideration. Blueprints were already starting to sketch themselves in her head. "Not... Not a bad idea, Stark," she said, after a moment.

Anya nodded. "I was in a bad car accident when I was ten and I suffered spinal injuries. I was paralyzed from the waist down for awhile."

The nanites finished their job. Anya handed the gauntlet to Sydney. "Try it now. There was a short."

Anya shrugged. "It wouldn't be that difficult. You may have to give up wheels and go to a hover chair, but it's totally doable."

Huh. Learn something new every day.

She slipped the gauntlet over her hand and flexed her fingers in a specific way. The glove glowed for a moment as the electro-blaster started charging. But she was also suspicious. "Not bad. How the heck did you do that? I didn't see you touch it."

"Little bit of an attention getter, but what the hell? Worth a shot."

"Nanites don't do a bad job with repairing a body, but they do a better job with electronics."

Anya gave it a small smile. "I know it's cheating, but it is effective. It helps a lot with suit operations."

"To do the repairs. They're shutdown now. No need to worry. I'm not going to take control of your suit. I'm a wee bit possessive about mine."

"I know all about keeping the best toys in a private toy box and not sharing with others," Anya said with a smile.

"How about in a day or two we share ideas for this new project? Or if you want, I can give you what I come up with and you can take it from there? Up to you."

"I'm mostly a software girl. Computer code is my strong suit."

Anya brought up a schematic on her computer and transferred it to the center of the work table. A holographic image seemed to float in mid-air. "What do you use for a power source?"

Sydney nodded. "Engineering's mine. Uncle Abe built the first version of the suit for me, but this one's my baby, more or less."

Built using Masters resources, yes, but still.

"As small an electrical generator as I could manage. Mostly housed in the wing-pods on the back."

"Take a look at this," she said as she moved the schematic over to Sydney. "I can build another if you want to use one. It uses zero point energy."

Well, she understood some of that schematic. "Wait, what now?"

Why exactly am I here again? Suit's not as good, obviously not nearly as smart as Stark here. Why have the inferior model when you're got the premium?

"Zero point energy. It draws vacuum energy from an artificially-created region of subspace. It should last for a few thousand years and will never have to be recharged. A friend of mine and I collaborated on it. I've integrated it into my car and my suit."

"Okay, I understood most of that," Sydney said. "But you're talking about stuff way outside my knowledge-base here. I'm not entirely comfortable plugging into something I don't understand or can't take apart on my own."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]anyastark

"I'm just offering. It will always be open if you decide you want to take me up on it."

Anya grabbed the schematic and tossed it back to the laptop.

"I'll take it under consideration," she assured Anya. "But I want to play around with some designs of my own first."

"Completely understandable. I'd be the same way."

Anya brought up a file she had been working on. Darlene was due for an upgrade in her code. She brought up another program and started a system diagnostic on her suit. It had felt a little sluggish.

Sydney brought up her own drafting program, going to work on some designs of her own. Maybe she wasn't as smart as Stark... but she was going to hold her own end.

After awhile Anya looked over. "So what do you think of the others?"
