To Lose an Eye

Eiltin was outside not far from where he lived practicing composition for the bardic arts. It wasn’t something that he used much but his father insisted that he at least practice with it since it was a rare gift to have talent in. He sung a couple of lines to Ruarc, his dog who was on the ground not far from him.

“What do you think of that,” he asked the dog who in return gave a look that Eiltin could tell meant he thought it was not bad. Of course he liked anything about hunting so Eiltin knew he was getting a bias review. Then all of a sudden the large dog stood up as it sensed someone approaching  and taking the hint Eiltin listen for the sound of footstep approaching which were not far away.

Based on Ruarc’s reaction it was a friend and not a foe so Eiltin was not too concerned. Once the visitor got closer he turned his head and said, “Hello, and may I inquire as to the nature of your visit today.”

Dadga frowned. "There are Asgardians in the mortal realm. Be wary of them. They are always a touchy lot and Manawydan did little to help relations with them. They are quick to anger and quicker to fight. Be on your guard if you come across any of them."

“I will Great Uncle. You can count on me to complete this task,” Eiltin said while thinking of a bunch of colorful ways to describe Manawydan’s lack of intelligence. With that Eiltin ran into his home to change into something more suitable than the loincloth that he was wearing and to gather his weapons just in case he needed them.

Running back outside he quickly said goodbye to Dadga before turning to talk to Ruarc who he told to stay here and look after their home. It pained him that he could not bring Ruarc with him but carrying him across an ocean would not have been a pleasant task.

With that he was off to the nearest gateway to the mortal relm.
