War is over, if you want it
Loki could not keep the smug look off his face. "You hath lost, Grandmaster. Mine champions didst roust thine in the end. A slim victory, yes... but the simple majority was all thou didst require."

He pointed a finger. "Thou art bound by the terms of our agreement. Thou art to leave now and not to quest for the Norn Stones again, nor to use pawns to acquire them."

The Elder of the Universe frowned deeply. "I always honor my word, Asgardian. Unlike some I have known. My champions shall be returned from wence they gathered, and yours shall be brought to thee. As we agreed."

With that, the Grandmaster was gone, and the Defenders appeared before Loki, no worse for wear for their adventures.

Loki moved quickly, faster than any would have expected. He had kept himself schooled during the fighting, not letting his surprise or even his worry show, but now, here, he was able to release these emotions. An intensity, even a a worry, showed clearly on his face. When he was closer, his arm shot out, grasping Dawn about the next and holding her off the ground.

"Speak ye, mortal, now! What has thou done to mine GRANDDAUGHTER?!"

Dawn clutched helplessly at his fingers around her neck. "Can't... breathe..."

Even against his Uncle, someone else isn't helpless. Halbjorn's hand closes on Loki's wrist.

"Thy granddaughter saved her life, and tis not thine to take now. Release her."

Its not a request.

Grace stood by, a little dazed from being turned into stone a couple of hours ago. She powered up her photonic blasts, ready to help Hal if he needed it.

Loki locked eyes with Halbjorn. "Thou wouldst presume to give me orders, boy?" he snarled, eyes wide with anger. "Thou presumest too much."

He let Dawn drop unceremoniously to the ground, however. "But thy words hath bought time. Further explanations art required."

Dawn sucked in grateful gulps of air after she landed on her rear, massaging her throat.

Halbjorn doesn't back down in the least from his uncle, releasing the older god's wrist only when he's released Dawn. He pushes Dawn behind him, even though standing between the two requires being almost directly face to face with Loki.

"And explanation ist coming, but threaten no further. They art under mine protection. Best thou'rt sure thou'rt willing to kill me ere thou touch her again, grandfather."

"Thou hast entirely too much of thine father in thee, Halbjorn," Loki told him. "But thine courage does thee credit, regardless."

There is, perhaps, for the briefest moment, the flicker of something like pain in the trickster god's eyes. It was well known he favored Asleif above the others.

"Twill be no deaths today. At least, not of thee and thine. But I wouldst know what has occurred."

Dawn managed to stop hyperventilating, at least. So apparently she wasn't going to be killed. Good. ...But she could probably still be turned into something unpleasant.

He got what he needed out of his grandfather. Even the Stone Bear isn't going to antagonize Loki just to do so. When the threat dies down, he helps Dawn to her feet, and settles for just remaining interposed between her and Loki so they can talk while Dawn is clearly under his protection.

Dawn skewed up her courage as best she could, and outlined, as best she could, what she knew had happened, up to and including having gone to Asgard to meet Thor.

"Aaand that's pretty much it. I'm really sorry, Mr. Loki. Sir. Really. I wouldn't have been in this mess if I could help it. Really."

It came at her usual nervous rate of talking when she was nervous, but she did stand her ground to explain it.

Loki listened without interruption, though occasionally his expression grew cross and he wished he could silence the prattling mortal.

"Ever the same tricks, eh, Father?" he said, mostly to himself. "It worked once, so why not try it again?"

His anger was contained, but smoldering. His granddaughter was arrogant, and rightfully so. He knew she had little regard for mortals and for Midgard, and did not blame her in the slightest. Of course, Odin always did see differently.

"I like this not. Rest assured, Odin will hear of mine displeasure."

He frowned, then nodded to himself. "Whilst thou and thine sibling and allies are here, and didst come at mine request when thou werest not required, I offer thee mine hospitality, if thou wouldst have it."

"Twas a most enjoyable day, grandfather, but we must return to Midgard. Much there still requires our attention."
