Going Home
Today was a good day. Steve was finally getting out of the hospital and they'd have a few days together over the long holiday weekend. Provided of course that nothing went to hell in Boston and she'd have to go back and help the Thunderbolts deal with the disaster. Here was to hoping.

There was a bounce to her step as she made her way to his room. She carried a bag that contained some clothes for him and a pair of shoes. He didn't need to be going home in his skivvies. Though she definitely liked seeing him in his skivvies, or better yet nothing at all.

She opened the door a crack and poked her head inside.

"'s okay," Steve said. He probably wasn't quite up for a long travel trip yet anyway.

Even with their shared experiences as Avengers and what not, the ease with which Anya thought of some things, like ducking out to all corners of the country for burgers, amazed him. Such a different world. But apparently one that had a place for him in it, which made him a lucky man indeed.

"You two have fun."

"She's really bumming about Charlie being gone and could really use a pick me up," Anya said as they stepped off the elevator.

She would miss their Saturday trip for burgers, but it had been some time since she had some QT with Toni.

"You of course are welcome to come to Boston for a few days if your parents are okay with it. I can see to your recovery up close and personal."

"She's not the only one," Steve said. "Fortunately, we both have you to distract us. Though... not in the same way."

Okay, he needed a moment to get that thought out of his head.

...

Okay, he was good again.

"I will definitely be doing that," he assured her. "Just in case I need some personal attention."

Anya chuckled. "Yes, we all know the two of you have the bromance of the century going."

She liked the idea of taking care of him during his recovery. "You'll get to meet the team too. We're a motley bunch, but we make it work."

Steve put on a mock serious face. "Do not mock the Bromance. The Bromance is good. The Bromance works."

"Oh yeah?" he asked. "Who all got down there anyway?"

"Oh I mock the Bromance," she said with a laugh. "I mock it big time."

She was glad he and Charlie were close. He needed someone he could talk to that wasn't her, just like she needed Toni. Though it was kind of weird that two best friends were dating two other best friends.

"Molly Hayes came from the X-Men. Victor Mancha from the Runaways. Plus we have Rok Lu, a Von Strucker and Sydney Davis. Though we lost one already and in our first outing we got space bug guts all over us."

"Bug guts?" Steve quirked an eyebrow. "Ew."

Wait. He reviewed the names in his head.

"...A Strucker?"

"/Space/ bug guts," Anya clarified. "Ship crashed and we helped SWORD out."

Anya nodded. "Yeah. Kid's trying to get away from the family, so we're helping her out."

"Yeah? That's... good," Steve said.

"Sorry. I know I shouldn't, what with Dad and all, but I guess I'm not as open-minded as you."

"The important thing is that someone is giving them a chance," she said as they walked across the lobby. "It may bite me in the ass one day, but I think the risk is worth it."

It did mostly sound like she had a decent group. Only a couple actually sounded, based on what he could remember, like they needed true rehabilitation. The rest sounded more like strays.

Maybe he was just jealous of her new team. But he still worried about her alone with a group of people he didn't know. Not that he had any doubts about her abilities to take them all on and walk away.

"If you think it is, then that's enough for me."

"If it saves a few from turning into criminals it's worth it." The main doors opened when they approached and Anya's Tesla was waiting right outside. "Your chariot, my prince."

"See, this is what makes you smarter than me," Steve said. "You think about stopping stuff before it's a problem, or about picking up afterward. Me, I'm more of a direct, head-cracking solution kinda guy."

He smiled. "And what a chariot it is."

"I would say we think of stuff before it's a problem. More like Starks are usually the reason for the problem." She grinned and opened the door for him. "I've wanted one of these since they announced they were making them. Though this one is no longer electric."

"Yeah, well, at least one of us is thinking," Steve said as he slipped inside.

He solution to most problems involved hitting it or shooting it with an arrow. Not exactly conductive to solving the energy crisis or giving second chances, but useful for putting any number of would-be world conquerers out of the fight.

"Sweet," he said.
