Two days in New York City
Jenny was happy to conveniently forgot her scheduled appointment with Dr. Samson, but leave it to Rob to have it on his calendar. The day before, she was notified that she would be collected at 6am and delivered to the S.H.I.E.L.D. transport for the New York run.

She tossed a few items into her shoulder bag along with a new book. She didn't need anymore than that as Rob had kept their leased apartment in New York. Between his monthly trips back to New York and her infrequent traveling, he said it was worth hanging onto it. Everything she might need was already there.

A note was posted on the refrigerator so the team would know she would be in the States for a couple of days. She also included a post script asking Leech to make sure Yankee Clipper was fed. She really hoped Quinn would continue to be tolerant and not turn YC into a fluffy orange and white throw pillow.

In New York, she had time to shower and change clothes before presenting herself at Dr. Samson's office promptly at 3pm. Each time she had one of these appointments she hoped it would be the last. Each time he said he would see her again in three months. At least this time she would have something different to contribute to the conversation.

Her smile didn't waver. It was expected that Rob would talk to the doctor. Rob behaved more like a father than her brother some times. He hadn't stopped her so she could let it go.

"I met a group of people from the States who have powers and abilities. They set up a team in London and asked me to join." She sank into the chair a little more, warming to the subject. "aside from some of the guys wandering around in their underwear, I don't feel like a kook when I'm with them."

	She laughed a little. "Kook is a good way to describe some of them. It does feel good. I don't worry so much if I happen to bump into one of them. Someone to shop with, sit in a pub with, even talk in the kitchen with some nights. Don't get me wrong, I do miss having Rob around so much, but he's kind of a fuddy duddy when you think about it." 	"It hasn't changed. I still can't control it but I'm getting more practice using it with others around. One of the group seems to be a power dampener. Damn. Leonard keeps the sigh internal.

"Jenny, what happened to you was very traumatic from a neurological standpoint." True enough, in its way. "As functional and together as you are now, it's still the case that in a lot of aspects, it's difficult to say much about your recovery with professional certainty."

A slight, wry smile. "And I'm sure you'll be shocked to learn both that Rob gets rather concerned and that SHIELD in general can be a bit paranoid about mental health issues."

She grinned in response. "It's not that I don't enjoy our quarterly chats, Dr. Samson. And Rob is an old granny sometimes. You just hear stories about people in therapy for years. I feel mostly put together. I have some nice new friends I don't want to alarm, and..."

A conversation replayed in her head. "The person I mentioned earlier, the fella that can dampen other people's power. He said there was a school in the New York that worked on helping mutants with control. Do you know about that place?"

He nods. "There is. They like to keep a very, very low public profile in terms of their specialty, public opinion being what it is. I've treated a few alumni from time to time over the years, although the school in general tends to have lax or...weird views about taking care of mental health issues."

A pause. "So. It sounds like you're living with Leech, unless they've got other power-dampening alumni now. Had a couple of appointments with him when he was much younger."

	"You know Leech?" Big smile. Leech had to be her favorite person in Excalibur. He was just so...calming. "A few of my new friends appear to know one another from where Leech is from. "The other school, the one your friends apparently attended, is considered a bit insular, attached to their secrets. The people in charge are sometimes considered ...authoritarian, but unpredictable when dealing with legal authorities," Leonard says, all truthfully. "I can think of a lot of reasons why Rob, if aware of the place, would not have thought it would be for you." Several reasons, even before he got to the real one.

"Artie's in London too. He seems very sweet. I thought about what Leech said and why Rob never mentioned it. I didn't wake up after the accident with this power. I had to have it long before then. If I was getting help somewhere before, Rob would have sent me back. Right?" She looked to him for confirmation. Rob cared. They were the only family they had in the world.

"Yeah, he's sweet." And a remote but conceivable risk for her mental preservation. Nothing gets to be simple, does it?

"That would figure. I must admit I've never heard when your abilities manifested. Some mutants have been known to be late bloomers, something triggering in their early twenties. So I really have no idea when your abilities first came out, but I'm fairly confident you didn't go to the school upstate. There'd be some note of it somewhere."
