Sitting on the Beach (open to Defenders)
Marlow sat on a blanket on the private beach one morning not that long after the battle with Dormammu, staring out over the waves with her knees drawn up to her chest. She wore a button down shirt Sarah found for her, probably one of Griffin’s, over swimsuit bottoms. The wound she’d sustained from the Mindless Ones laser blasts was healing slowly. It made lifting her arms over her head hurt and pull on the healing flesh, so wearing her own tee shirts was out of the question for awhile.

She really wished she could heal herself. It was by far the worst thing that had happened to her up to now. Even with the odd magic boost, she couldn’t manage the most simple healing spell on herself.

"Three of them. If you want to watch other movies too, it's okay with me. I'll ask Sarah for raspberry iced tea. A lot of it." Sarah could provide any request. Marlow had faith.

"Come whenever you can after your swim." She frowned as a thought crossed her mind. In her convoluted way, she had Andy and Titan separated in her head. "Did Andy tell you about dinner at the main house?"

"I'll be swimming again soon," she said, wistfully looking out at the ocean. "When the salt water doesn't sting anymore. Then we can swim together."

She gave a firm nod. It didn't seem odd to her at all that she felt protective of the green giant. "You should come to dinner so the others know you'll be around from time to time instead of just when we're in a fight. I'll go with you."

"You think they'll really care one way or the other, Magic Babe? I mean, I'm not exactly the kind of guy people try to make friends with. Andy usually handles that for us. Or, I should say, he usually apologize for anything I've done after." Titan says.

"But...I'll go if you'll go. Walkin' in with a hot girl has its perks." Titan grins.

Why isn't she terrified of me yet? Maybe because she could turn me into a toad if she wanted. Titan thinks.

"Wow...that's pretty tactically brilliant, Magic Babe. You been holdin' out on me." Titan grins.

"Okay, so I have dinner with the team and let 'em all know who I am. Just for note, though, I don't do the whole 'Hi, my name's Titan' thing. Tried it once, and it went badly." he says.

"Besides, once dinner is over, I get to hang you with you, so it works out." he shrugs.

	She gave him a smile for the compliment. She wasn't battle smart or combat trained, but she had some common sense. "Pretty sure they all know who you are by now, Titan." Someone choosing to hang out with her was also a nice surprise. "It's a plan, then. Dinner, movies and popcorn, and ice cream. We'll get some from the main house before we go back to my bungalow." 	Oh boy, did she know that. She'd spent a year with godlings and still managed to put on a few pounds to reach a more healthy weight for her height. "We can get a lot. "Well, yeah, of course. A freezin' spell will solve the problem." Titan nods, trying not to sound like an idiot. He has cousins and aunts and lots of other people in his family that know magic, but he's not one of them.

Childhood isn't fun when everyone you know can do something you can't.

"Marlow...do you like bein' able to do magic? Is it fun for you, or would you rather do something else?" he asks.

Marlow blinked at the question. No one had ever asked her that. Her earliest memories were of magic and Clea. She'd grown up alone, with only adults for instruction and training, under the assumption she would one date take Clea's place or even Doctor Strange's if necessary. No one her own age. It hadn't seemed wrong or different until she was sent here to join the Defenders and expand her world.

"I don't know anything else. I've always been able to do magic. I like to make people smile with it, and protect them. I can't not do magic."

	Marlow nearly glowed with the praise. The adults in her world had been kind, but they expected her to get things right. She heard about things that went wrong. Marlow's smile made Titan smile as well, and he found that the image of her smiling was the one he liked most in his head. Sure, she was cute when pissed off, but that also tended to mean the offender was getting a fireball in the face shortly after, too.

"I'm glad I'm here, too. Aside from havin' really good food...you're the first person since my parents who's really ever tried to talk to me. I'm still waitin' for you to come to your senses and run away. Or teleport away. Or do that whole illusion-you thing." Titan says.

"But until then, I'll take what I can get." he grins.

"I'm sorry you don't scare me because you keep expecting to, but when I think about what scares me... One of the guys we were fighting, Dormammu. I don't know if you remember him. He was the one calling out the monsters against us and battling Doctor Strange. He's Clea's uncle. Clea is the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension and the closest thing I have to a parent. After growing up with that, being taught what could happen and why I have to be strong, you're just different to me. Not scary."

Oh, memory! "Andy said that I should show you the illusion trick the next time you were around and that you'd really like it. Do you want to see it?"

She didn't bother to ask why he wanted to see it. It was different and people were curious creatures.

A second Marlow appeared sitting in the sand to his left. A third in front of him. A fourth to his right. They were all exact images of her as she was right at that moment, an off blue button down shirt, black bikini bottoms, the sliver of white bandage in the neckline, and smile.

	Marlow, and the image that he was about to touch, both grinned when his fingers brushed through the image's knee. Marlow's smile faltered and her hand went to her own knee. "Do what? This...?" he asks, as he leans to touch the Marlow in front of him, gently moving a finger alongside the curve of her chin.

His finger did go through the image slightly, but he could swear he felt skin just now. And did this one smell like sea cotton? He really liked that scent.

"This...is real nice." he says absentmindedly, starting to trail a large finger through the image's hair.
