We Are Armed Up to the Teeth (Open to Independents)
Two nights after his first appearance, the Man in Black is prowling the streets of New York, seeking any trace of the Poison Memories he can find. He stops other thieves and killers along the way, but any time he can find a member of the Poison Memories, he devotes his all to stopping that criminal. Every criminal he comes across is beaten savagely, regardless of the crime, but only the gang-bangers  get the worst thrashings.

All in all, he finds himself smiling beneath the mask as he perches atop a light pole across from ESU to survey the landscape.

Where are the muggers?

Soon enough, he sights one, and releases a webline, swinging over in the direction to intervene.

A somewhat more brightly clad figure has been hunting down those same gang-bangers, for the same incident.

Guardian narrows his gaze as he spots the other figure swing in. Could this actually be Spider-Man?

He lands atop a street light and fires a web-line at the running mugged, hoisting him into the air as the man shrieks.

He raises a fist, readying to strike the criminal.

...now that doesn't seem very Spider-Manly.

Moving as fast as he can, Guardian comes up behind the other web-slinger. "I think you've got him already."

The fist pauses as Guardian speaks, unmoving. Still, the black-suited vigilante does not lower it, or speak in response.

He seems to be considering something.

Guardian extends a hand and envelopes the thug in more webbing. He doesn't say anything, but keeps his gaze fixed on not-Spider-Man.

He leaps off the flag-pole to land down on the street where the shocked woman is waiting, having just grabbed her fallen purse.

He stares at her as well, before looking up at Guardian again.

The extends an arm, firing a webline, and swings off toward a building several yards away.

Here, he turns to look back at Guardian and waits.

Guardian follows after him, landing next to him.

"Well? That didn't seem like what I've heard about Spider-Man."

He crouches, looking at Guardian. The one who failed.

"Nooooo. Not Ssspider-Mannn..." he says, his voice oddly modulated and guttural.

"Thossse who hurrrt the innocent...must be punnissshed." he says.

"Follow."

Before Guardian can say anything further, the Man in Black swings off again, toward the East.

.... Okay. That's not like, foreboding or anything...

He goes after the other web-slinger anyway, keeping pace with him fairly easily. "Is this just the awkward meeting stage? I'm really a nice superhero when you get to know me. What's your favorite color?"

This one talks too much. Just like him. He even wears his colors.

The pair swing over toward the East Side, where there are several low-end bars and nightclubs, landing across the street from the 8th Street Bar & Grill. The Man in Black perches on the edge of the roof, watching street types enter the building.

"Thieves in there. Killers, muggers, and rapists? Why has nothing been done?" he asks, looking to Guardian.

Because no-one's here to see it happen. A voice rings out in Jack's head, which he shoves back to the back of his mind.

"Because... it doesn't work like that. We're not the police. We can't go after people unless we catch them in the act." He cocks his head. "Seriously man, have you considered therapy? Even aromatherapy? Or a lozenge? You sound like you could use a lozenge."

"I did not come for...jokes." he says. "They are guilty and we can stop them. What more do you need?

Or does someone have to die to get your attention?" he asks.

"That's just not how it works." Guardian insists.

"...who are you?"

He will not spend more time arguing with this one. He leaps from the roof, firing a web-line as he falls. He swings straight across the street and slams through the plate glass window coming to rest on a table.

At least three people inside the bar have seen this guy before and they know what he's about.

"Crap! It's Spider-Man!" one man yells.

Several man pull knives, brass knuckles and even a few guns from concealed places and get ready to advance on the Man in Black.

He sighs. Well NOW it's a thing.

He charges in after him, shooting web blasts at the weapons, trying to tangle them up before they can be brought into play.

"We're not Spider-Man!"

Web-bolts faster crooks to the wall as he leaps over the swing of a baseball bat to come down on top of the man swinging it.

A leap, a twirl, and now he's on the bar, cartwheeling in the direction of a particular man he's seen before. One of the shooters from the day they were born.

He shoots a webline and catches the man at the ankle, pulling gently for him; the man goes crashing to the ground. He dodges another swing before it makes contact and drops down next to the killer.

"You will pay for your sins tonight." the Black Suit says. He then hoists the man over his shoulder with ease and runs back out the front door.

He does not direct the Pretender to follow him. He will either do so, or not.

"Hey! I'm not done chastising you yet! Honestly, the nerve of some sociopaths..." Jack swings after him, calling to the ruffians over his shoulder.

"And if I have to come back here, I'm going to call all your mothers and have them come in and talk to your teachers!" He makes a beeline after Not Spider-Man. He's got a bad feeling.

As he should have.

The Black Suit fires a webline and begins swinging, criminal and all, toward the Brooklyn Bridge. Several minutes later, he is holding the obviously terrified criminal over the water.

"Where are the rest of the Poison Memories?" he asks, letting his grip relax just a bit.

"I can't tell you man! They'll kill me if I do!" the crook says.

"And who says you'll live if you don't tell me?" he snarls.

"I really think you should tell him." Guardian pipes up as he lands next to them.

He doesn't want to blow the chance of getting the criminal to talk, but he doesn't want to seem like he's encouraging this either.

The thug sees Guardian and assumes he's the real Spider-Man. The real Spider-Man wears red-and-blue, right?

"Don't let 'im kill me, man? I got a wife and kids! Please!" the thug yells.

"Okay, I'll tell you! 4233 West 83rd Street. Our leader, Kumiko Ashu, usually holes up there. He's the guy you want! I'm just a soldier, man!" the thug pleads.

Pathetic.

"If we ever see you again, you die." the Black Suit says, pulling the man up and tossing him at Guardian's feet.

"You can keep this one. We are going to find the leader and make him pay for hurting the innocent." he says, readying himself to leap out into the night.

Guardian, having no time to be stunned, frisks the man before tying him up, taking his cell-phone from him. He dials with one hand as he slings the webbed up criminal over his back and jumps down towards traffic.

"911? No, I'm not the one having an emergency, but I'm calling to report one. There's a vigilante about to storm the hangout of the Poison Memories. He shook down the address from one of their members I've got tied up. I'm using their phone."

...

"NO THIS ISN'T A PRANK! This guy is crazy, and you need to get the police there as soon as possible! I'll do what I can." He gives the dispatcher the address, before sticking the the criminal the side of a truck. "You ever pick up another gun, a knife outside of a butcher shop, or raise a hand against anyone, and I'll find you. Spread the word that Guardian is watching out for people. I'm NOT Spider-Man."

Hoping the message sticks, he takes off after the other not Spider-Man.

The Black Suit finds his way to the place on 83rd Street, a warehouse that seems to very lively for the late hour of the night. He lands atop the building and creeps inside through an open window, the costume changing immediately to the color of the red-brick inside the building.

The music is loud and uncomfortable, but the Black Suit watches, looking for any other criminals he knows, when he spots the second shooter from that day among the party-goers. He's dancing, laughing and drinking as if he hasn't a care in the world.

The Black Suit crawls along the ceiling then lowers himself down into the midst of the party people as he comes up behind the shooter.
