America's Favorite Pastime
The week had been a busy one for Anya and she needed some major downtime. Classes had loaded her down with homework and she had personal projects that needed to be done. Upgrades for Darlene, upgrades for Darwin and Schrodinger and upgrades for the computer systems in the Thunderbolts Headquarters. She still had to find time to take a trip to the West Coast to upgrade the computers at the Defenders' Headquarters. All of this translated into a week with very little sleep. She was in dire need of that downtime.

The best way to spend downtime was with her amazing boyfriend.

Anya had made arrangements earlier in the week and when classes were over on Friday, she rocketed to New York. The game started at 7pm, but they had to be there quite a bit earlier than that. Anya grabbed a quick shower, dressed in a shirt and jeans and slipped on her pair of Doc Marten boots. She had told Steve they had plans for the evening, but she hadn't elaborated on what those plans were. Starks could be devious.

With a smile on her face and a bounce in her step, she went to find Steve.

It had been a great night. Steve appeared to have a good time and Anya was happy he was happy. She got to relax, have a good time and spend the night with her amazing boyfriend.

They stopped and picked up ice cream on their way back to the penthouse. Pistachio for Anya, a half gallon of chocolate for Mom, neopolitian for Dad, and a separate container of chocolate for Steve. She didn't need her mother fighting with her boyfriend over the ice cream. The pregnant lady would win.

The slipped in the door around midnight and the lights were still on. Mom and Dad were probably still awake.

Steve had been smart enough not to do a victory dance when the Red Sox won. It would have been impolite, really. And put a real crimp in his sex life.

"Thank-you, for all that," he said, "in case I haven't said it enough."

Anya shut the door and wrapped her arms around him. "You're welcome. I'm glad you liked it. It was the least I could do for the most amazing man I know."

The least she could do was get them down on the field for batting practice with the Red Sox, plus a private box for the game itself? That was a bit much.

"Eh, I'm not that amazing."

She looked up at him. "Yes, you are. I think you're pretty damn amazing and my opinion is the only one that counts on this subject matter."

He smiled and shrugged. "Well, who am I to argue then?"

"Smart man," she said and kissed him. "Let's get this ice cream in the freezer before it melts. We can grab some and then go celebrate your team winning."

Steve, after the kiss, was hoping for some kind of definition of "celebrating." Because, you know, parents in the house. And one of the other times they'd done that, he'd been fairly certain Natasha was going to kill him at some point during breakfast the next day.

"Sounds good."

Anya led him into the kitchen where she grabbed some bowls and an ice cream scoop. Of course she wasn't going to elaborate on 'celebrating'. Anya liked action better than talking.

She started to scoop out ice cream for the both of them. "So I think I have about two weeks off before fall semester starts," she put out there.

"Mine don't start until after Labor Day," Steve said.

"But we should do something," he agreed.

Anya got ice cream in bowls in no time and put the containers in the freezer. Amazingly enough there were no fires and not one appliance committed suicide.

She slid onto a stool at the breakfast counter. "We should. So that begs the question, where do you want to go for a week or two?"

A lack of fire was a good thing.

Steve slid onto the stool across from her. "Beats me," he said. "I'd probably never leave New York except for Avengers stuff if not for you."

"I guess that means we'll have to go someplace you've never been. I was thinking about the Tahiti house, but I think...the French Riviera? Italy? Spain? All are nice this time of the year."

"Tuscany is amazing this time of year. If your mother could travel, I'd take her there." Tony says, walking into the kitchen. He smiles at Anya and offers Steve something of a nod as he heads toward the freezer.

"Oh, there's ice cream." he says, as if stumbling onto a new tech development. Of course there is ice cream in the freezer of his own house. There is also his daughter and her boyfriend, in the kitchen of his home. At midnight. In the kitchen. In his house.

"So, what do you kids have planned this evening? A bit late, isn't it?" Tony asks, making a bit of a show of getting a couple of bowls.

There's always a smile for Dad. "Hi Daddy."

"Why don't you have her ask her doc if she can go?" Anya asked. "Goodness knows the two of you can use a vacation. Or have the teleporter on the Champions take you there?"

"We picked some up on the way home. We went to the Yankees game earlier. I'm commiserating a loss and Steve's celebrating a win."

Steve wished he had some of his arrows with him. Because impaling himself sounds like a good way of getting out of this scenario.

"Red Sox won, Mr. Stark. Sir."

"The Red Sox are still a team? Wow. I really thought someone would have bought them out and disbanded them by now." Tony says.

Not for his own lack of trying, certainly. Tony was not a fan of Boston,to say the least. He often ranted to Tasha about everything that was wrong with the city, though his complaints might have increased around the time Anya left home for school.

"Well, Steve, you go ahead and celebrate. Every dog has it's day eventually." Tony says.

"Just don't celebrate too much." Tony offers with a cryptic smile.

"Daddy, your dislike of the Red Sox is showing again," Anya smirked. "I took Steve for batting practice and to meet them. The don't seem like servants of the Devil that you make them out to be. They were rather nice." She loved teasing when she could.

"Steve and I were just discussing what to do during the two weeks I have between classes. I suggested the French Riviera, Spain or Italy, but Tuscany is a possibility."

"Oh, is Mom still awake? I got her chocolate ice cream."

That Anya talked about going to those places the way he talked about going downtown never ceased to amaze him. And the box has been nice, he'd fully admit that, but it seemed cheating somehow, the thrill of being in the bleachers with all the other fans.

"We don't have to do anything big, you know," he said. "Plenty to do closer to home."

"Yes, your mother is awake, so I'll take her some. Thank you, honey." he says, going to kiss Anya on the cheek.

"While I'd like it if you stayed local, I suppose Tuscany is nice this time of year. Oh, and Steve, I'd like us to have lunch next week. What's your schedule like?" Tony asks.

"I'll think about staying local," she said as he kissed her cheek. "Love you."

Oh this could not be good. Dad was planning something and with Steve no less. Thankfully she didn't have to worry about Dad making him disappear, that was more Mom. Or did she?

She eyed him suspiciously. "Dad...."

"Good to hear, Steve. I'll have my secretary contact you with the time and place." Tony smiles, getting around to getting the ice cream for himself and Tasha.

He looks over to Anya, who has the same look on her face that Tasha gets when she thinks Tony Is Up To Something.

He simply smiles at his daughter and carries the ice cream back to the room.

Yup, Dad was definitely up to something and it couldn't be anything good.

Anya looked at Steve. "I'm sorry?"
