Re: Back at Gran's...
At some point after Fury leaves, Tech sits up for a bit, thinking about several things long after his ice cream is gone. He almost has another bowl, but if he does, he won't sleep, Gran will kill him, and he'd miss out on whatever Fury had planned for tomorrow.
There was something about her that captured his attention, that was different from any other woman he'd ever met. She was so...unlike the type of person he thought he could see himself with, but they were friends, easily. More than that? He couldn't help but think of Jake's words.
She's an agent first and a person second, if at all. Keep your eyes open, Jason. S.H.I.E.L.D. will lock you up like a dog once they've taken what they want from you, if they don't kill you first. Your handler is going to be someone they think can control you.
Was Fury working him? Their earlier kiss didn't feel like it, but that was the sign of a good work. He remembered how well Agent Falconeri had worked him before they learned he was S.H.I.E.L.D.
They're gonna come at you sideways, Jason. Through Jess, through Gran, through your work.
"She's not like that." Tech tells himself as he gets up to rinse out his bowl.
"She's not like that." Jason Landon tells himself as he makes his way down the hall to his bedroom.
Whatever they had was good right now, but would it survive beyond a few days in the South? Or was Jake right, like usual?
He wished he knew.
