A Night At Mac's
Greg stepped off the small stage and headed for the bar. The final set was over and he had the rest of the night free. A friend of his had called earlier in the evening and asked if he wanted to sit in on drums for a friend of his. Greg was getting known as the go to guy when a band member bailed at the last second.

Greg didn't mind. He liked playing and when he wasn't playing he sat in clubs and watched others play. The extra cash didn't hurt at all, but cash wasn't something that Greg paid much attention to. Music had become his life's passion and thankfully he had the means to pursue it.

Mac's was was pretty full, Greg managed to find an empty bar stool and slid onto it. He motioned to the bartender and a moment later a glass of Scotch was set in front of it. He wanted a smoke, but the stupid city had banned smoking in all bars and restaurants. After his drink he'd go outside to have a quick smoke.

"Hey man, every hand helps. If he turns up something, we'll take it to the group and see if everyone wants in on it." Matt says.

"Like I said, I'm bringing in someone to replace Shelly, but she's definitely just as powerful and you won't have the same reaction to her as before, I hope." he says.

Greg nodded. "I'll see what I can find out."

"As long as it's not black magic and a night of the full moon I'll be fine." Well at least he hoped he would be.

"Awesome. So what are you doing with yourself besides club-hopping and trying to get over what we just went through, man? What do you do for a living?"

"This is it," Greg answered. "I hang out and sit in on gigs when needed. Music is my life. Has been since I was young."

"Damn. Nice gig." Matt says. He's never had a lot of money and has worked for everything he currently has. Of course, getting the lease for a new office is going to be a pain in the ass, and getting money for the rent more so if work doesn't start rolling in.

"Your parents live here in town? How long you been here?" he asks.

"They live in California," Greg explained. "Few years. Long enough to be known as the guy to call when someone needs a drummer or a guitar player. What about you? New to town?"

"Yeah, real new, just a couple of weeks, actually. Still getting all my stuff in from New York. I worked with Lynch when she was NYPD, and I was working on a case that ended up leading me here." Matt elaborates.

"I've just got to get my name out there and get business drummed up. Hopefully Chicago's just as good for the P.I. business as New York was." he says, munching a fry.

"I'm sure it is," he said. "Enough weird stuff happens here too. Not to mention there's the usual stuff like people cheating on their spouses and whatnot."

"God, I hate cheating spouse cases. You're basically getting paid off of someone's misery. Why even get married if you're just gonna cheat?" Matt asks rhetorically. He's very old-fashioned when it comes to marriage and such things.

"Missing persons cases are tough, too, but I'd take that over a cheating spouse any day." he says.

Greg shrugged. "It's a messed up world."

Greg believed in marriage, he just didn't think it was for him. He wouldn't subject any woman to dealing with his curse.

"If you ever need any help, give me a call. I'm kind of good at tracking things."

"I'll do that. In fact, now that I think on it, if business picks up, I could use some back-up. A partner would help cut down the workload some, and we could keep an eye out for things while we're at it." Matt says.

"You ever thought about become a private investigator? The job isn't real demanding on your time, except when you're working." he says.

"Me? No. I haven't thought of anything outside of music," Greg admitted. "I wouldn't mind helping out." He grinned. "It's not like I have any to do."

"All right, then. How about we start you off easy with a little something on the next job I take up? You can do a little legwork, see how you like it.

If you feel like you want to continue, I'll tell you what you need to do to get licensed." Matt says.

Greg considered it for a moment. It would give him something to keep him busy and not interfere with his music.

"Works for me," he finally said.

He offers his hand to shake.

Greg took the hand an shook it. "In the immortal words of Rick Blaine, I believe this is the start of a beautiful friendship."
