He jumped out of the tree. He hit the ground without thinking about it he bolted away from the tree. He got away from the tree and glanced around to make sure he wasn't near anything that might react to him. He looked safe.
But he could feel in his mind that the root system was still close. Right under the path way he was on. He jumped just in time to avoid and angry root and reflexively threw up an icy barrier in front of him.
