Labor Day (Open to Midnight Sons)
Greg had thought about going back to LA for the holiday weekend to see his family, but a gig came up at the last moment and decided that playing music was much better than dealing with family. The gig was Sunday night and on Monday Greg found himself in his favorite club, putting back beers and listening to jazz music. It was his idea of a perfect holiday.

Matt will meet up with Greg at the club, knowing he wouldn't be celebrating Labor today tomorow. He hadn't celebrated most holidays since he was eight years old.

Anton LeVey had made sure all of his days were dedicated to staying alive.

He sits down at the table with Greg, having left a message for Shelly, Lynch and Michelle to meet them there if they were able.

"Hey man. This place is pretty cool." Matt says, ordering a beer.

Greg smiled. "It is. Best jazz in all of Chicago. Beer's okay too." Greg motioned for the waitress to bring a round.

Shelly got the message and considered ignoring it. Leaving the apartment for something that wasn't work or absolutely essential grocery shopping (and she'd just consumed her last box of cereal and mysterious canned good) was questionable. But she realized that would just get her father on her ass again or bring Matt back to the door trying to lure her out. Not that she minded his company...

...but she ventured out and showed up at the club.

Whether or not she had a wooden stake in her purse was another story.

Michelle wasn't entirely certain why she'd come. She didn't mind Mike and Shelly was a decent person as far as she could tell, but despite what he'd done for her, she no longer particularly trusted Greg.

But she'd come all the same.

Lynch was busy all day. Most people didn’t want to work Labor Day but she had volunteered to. She really liked her job so she didn’t mind working.

If she had time later and wasn’t too exhausted to might come down.

Matt enjoys the drinks and the band, and he smiles when Shelly and Michelle arrive.

"Hey ladies. Come on and sit down."

"Hey." Shelly made her way over and sat down. "How goes?"

She took a seat with the others. "Eh. It's okay. Job ain't bad. Serving beer to idiots."

Greg stood up when the ladies arrived. "Shelly. Michelle. Good to see the two of you again." He motioned to the bartender to come over and take their orders.

"It's going pretty good tonight." Matt says, taking another sip of his drink.

"Greg's got some great taste in music and things are quiet tonight. How are things at home?" he asks Shelly.

"Quiet," she said and nodded a little at Matt. "Nothing out of the ordinary has happened as of late so that's been nice. And my father seems to not be stalking me."

"Quiet's good," Michelle reflected.

"...Even if it feels like waiting for the other shoe to drop."

"Don't think about it. No sense worrying over something that /may/ or may /not/ happen."

Shelly frowned.

"Have your throat ripped open by Dracula sometime and tell me if it's something you can just not think about, particularly when people remind you of it frequently."

Coming out had been a bad idea and she idly passed her fingers over her throat before moving to get her purse.

"I was talking about the waiting for the other shoe to drop," Greg clarified. "You'd end up a basket case if you constantly thought about what could happen."

"Shelly, he was referring to Michelle's comment. Please don't leave." Matt says. He wonders if it's still too soon for her after everything that's happened and he curses Dracula mentally. His determination to move forward with his idea increases after seeing her reaction.

"I think it was just a mis-communication. If you need to go, I'll take you home." Matt offers.

"The other-shoe actually fits my situation. It's all a mess of 'what now?' I don't think that it's particularly easy to push back against that feeling at the moment, for any of us." She sighed. "I'm not going to wreck your evening by making you take me home, Matt."

"It won't be an issue, Shelly. If you want to go, I can take you and come back, though I think it would be good for you if you stayed. You don't want to get cabin fever." Matt reminded her.

Michelle didn't have much to say, so she just let Matt and Shelly sort it out.

Shelly arched a brow at Matt. He had been on this crusade of sorts about her well-being.

"Fine. But I require food.". She paused. "And booze."

"All right, then. Let's do this." Matt says, nodding to include Shelly's drink order.

He also ordered an appetizer for everyone to share...though he wasn't sure how much Michelle could eat.

Michelle didn't eat or drink any more--she'd stopped somewhere along the line and not even really realized it--but the social element here was still a necessary one.

"I work at a bar that caters to the biggest idiots imaginable: vampire groupies," Michelle deadpanned. "It's incredibly aggravating, but it pays the bills."

"I don't know, Michelle. Some of those idiots pay me good money to find out things they already know. I don't stop them, really, but work has been good. My case load is getting heavier, though.

Might need to take out an ad for a partner soon enough." Matt says.
