An Introductory Reunion.
Tina had to get away from Xavier's for a bit.  The closer in proximity she was to her fellow X-types and mutants the higher the odds that she'd develop a new ability.  Tina was growing weary of the now-normal searing pain of her genetics rewiring to accommodate something new and while it was fun she couldn't go drinking with Rose every night.  She elected to go home for a bit, to go stretch out on her own couch and just relax in the relative peace and quiet of her brownstone.  Justin could come stay the night when he wanted to (provided she could lure him out of the lab...some flirtatious texts often did the trick)  and she would be safe to try to get a handle on what the hell was going on with her since Providence.  Dr. McCoy still had no lead on fixing her and Tina realized she had to psychologically brace herself for the possibility that she might never be her brand of normal again.

Today, she'd gotten up early.  Just had been there for the night so she got up, made him breakfast, sent him out the door (which made her feel kind of like a housewife, which as nice) and then sat herself down with a cup of coffee.  The day was still pretty early and she had a blank canvas.  A second cup of coffee in hand, she tried to decide what to do for the day.  It was kind of liberating to have no plans, but boring just the same.

"You are not, young woman. Ah invited you out for the meal, and Ah'll be takin' care of the tab. So, if you're ready, we'll go now." he smiles.

"Is this one of those Southern hospitality things?" She smiled as she nodded for him to follow her to the garage and her new Jag. "You can pay, but I can drive."

"Ah can agree to this plan, Chrissy." Bruce says, following her to her car. He whistles in appreciation when he sees it.

"Very nice car. Ah used to like tooling around with them, rebuilding them when Ah had the time." he says.

"I'm presently rebuilding that one," she points to the black, 1972 Chevy Impala convertible coupe half under a protective cover to the far left of the garage. "I'm working on another car, but I've got that off-site lest Justin see it. Older cars are more of a challenge sometimes, but I enjoy getting my hands dirty."

She slid behind the wheel of her Jag and he'd notice that she didn't have any keys for it. She didn't need them at all; the car simply started up on its own.

"No one could ever figure out where I got the car thing from."

Bruce had long stopped suppressing Tina's powers, deciding now that he needed to know more about his daughter than just what she's been doing over the years.

"Well, now we know where you got it from and...if these things aren't too personal for you, Ah would like to help you work on one in the future. Maybe a way for us to spend a little more time together, if you want." Bruce says.

Christina was quiet as she thought about this for a moment and negotiated through traffic. Justin, thus far, was the only person who had ever wanted to mess with cars with her. It wasn't exactly that it was special to them, just that Tina had been so alone for everything. She chewed her lower lip, pulling into a parking spot in front of the restaurant.

"I have been considering buying an old Dodge Charger." She looked over to him for a moment as she drew her purse to her from the backseat with her TK. "If you're interested, we could go pick it up today."

"Ah will go if you will have me." he says, getting out of the car. He will then go to her side of the vehicle and open the door for her and help her out.

"I wouldn't have mentioned it if you weren't invited."

Bruce's level of manners was a bit unusual to Christina, but she let him open the doors for her without question. Inside, she explained to him the options available for his burrito and then ordered her own, her usual vegetarian.

"You haven't told me much about what you do now, Bruce," she said as they sat down.

Bruce also orders the vegetarian burrito.

"I'm not fond of eating animals, my dear. It just builds up negative energy." he says.

Bruce also pulls out Tina's chair for her, allowing her to sit down before he seats himself. He feels his daughter should understand how a man treats a woman, by Southern standard.

"I'm a consultant for a small firm in New Orleans, Chrissie. I come to New York once every few months to check on some investments here and there. What do you do?" he asks.

Well, there was another mystery solved and while she was pretty certain being a vegetarian wasn't coded into the DNA it was a fairly interesting similarity. She still wasn't certain what to make of the Southern manners yet, though. It was such a strange, weird idea to be taken care of and something she struggled with. Justin would attest to that.

"I'm an information systems and technology expert. Sometimes I do some logistics." She paused a moment to take a bite of her burrito and chew. "That probably sounds pretty vague, but it's really a glorified way of saying I do a lot of stuff. The pay isn't great, but I have quite a bit in the way of my own resources."

"May I ask if you enjoy what you do? Because if you don't, then perhaps you might consider something else in the future?" Bruce asks.

"Does Emma not provide for you?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Oh no, Emma provides. I have charge cards with no limits that I never see the bills to, half a dozen trust funds, stock, and a bank account that gets regular six-figure deposits from her. Every once in awhile a new car shows up for me, or a bunch of designer handbags. She more than provides and if we want to be technical, she paid for my brownstone. She also calls all the time and has tried dropping by, though I ignore her with impunity." One would think the woman would have stopped trying by now, but she hadn't and even Tina wondered why that was. "But I have my own money as well. In the latter years of my previous profession Shaw didn't keep the proceeds. So I did."

And she was paid very well.

"I enjoy what I do. I think Justin would prefer if I found something else to occupy my time, though. I have a tendency to come home a little bruised from time to time."

"Well, I do understand that your mother provides, but I'm also going to do the same, Chrissie and I'll brook no arguments or polite rejections." he says, grimacing still at what Shaw did to his daughter.

He takes a bite of his own burrito and admits that it is good, for Mexican food.

"Why exactly would you come home bruised from work, Chrissie? I have to say that I would wonder why my significant other comes home injured from what seems to be a desk job." Bruce says. Of course, he already knows the answer to this question, but it would be best to not scare her off yet.

"It's...not a desk job."

Tina thought about this for a moment. Should she tell him? Secrets hadn't gone well for her. She swallowed hard, then took a drink of her soda, and a deep breath.

"I'm an X-Man."

"And yet when non-conventional threats to American lives and country happen, we respond while lawful outlets twiddle their thumbs or scream like girls. I do good work. I give kids like I was the hero I never had."

Bruce understood where his daughter was coming from, in a way. Those who had been oppressed usually became oppressors, but there were a rare few who went the other way. It seemed his daughter wanted to help people keep from ending up the way she had.

"I understand your desire, my dear, but...we are livin' in desperate times, Chrissie. The world needs a scapegoat and we're convenient. I don't want you gettin' killed to save other people." Bruce says.

"You'll forgive me if I have somethin' of an issue with that, Christina." Bruce says simply.

"I know that I have no right to ask you to stop what you're doin'. You clearly are invested in it and you believe in the worth of your cause; I admire that.

However, I do not want you gettin' killed before we have a chance to know each other as more than two people who share blood." Bruce says.

"Well, considering how awry my last mission went I'm actually benched for awhile. At least until they can figure out what in the hell is going on with me. If it's any consolation I'm on desk duty as it were for the time being so there's a much-reduced chance of me getting killed before we get to know each other better.

You know, I'm kind of surprised you bothered to come looking for me."

"Why is that, Chrissie? I want to know my daughter and I'm gettin' that chance. I would have been in your life sooner if I could manage it." Bruce tells her, eating a bit more burrito.

"I'm glad you're not actively working right now, though it's likely best you don't give me details. That would force me to worry." Bruce says.

"Well. most men consider it a stroke of luck when the mothers of their 'bastard' children actively get out of their lives. I dont' know of too many who want much to do with their children. It's a sad stereotype, but it exists for a reason. Not saying that about you, mind you, just saying that I'm surprised."
