Stepping Up to the Plate
Hours later...Medieval Times is cleaned up. Charges were dropped. There went his take from his last movie and his date for Friday. She used to watch Mr. Muscles after school and that was a mutual turn off. He should get better about that. It's not like he's going to age and he's not into grandmas - yet. He dropped by his place

He uses his old ID card to get past the security (damn Tony for reactivating it already) and knocks on the door. "Mrs. Ashcroft, I have beer."

With the drama from the night's activities winding down Sydney was taking advantage of the quiet. The godlings were all in their bungalows for the night (she hoped) and Zoey was sound asleep in their room. It was a rare quiet moment she could enjoy.

Se had been sitting in the living room curled up with a book and classical music on when the knock on the door came. Syd uncurled her legs out from under her and book in hand she answered the door.

"Mr. Williams," she said and opened the door wider. "You said the magic words. And it's Ms. Ashcroft or better yet, Sydney or Syd."

	"Syd then." She drinks beer. He's also brought wine just in case, but if you offered wine it made you look like you were trying to get some more then being polite. He did notice the "Ms." but tries to overlook it. "I guarantee it's good beer." He comes in. "Wow. The paint's new. We had some early '90's color that was just silly in this room." "Mr. Stark had the place renovated before we moved in," she said and closed the door behind him. "According to him the place hadn't been used in years. I believe the structures were reinforced as well." Which given the current residents, it was probably for the best.

"I must apologize for tonight. Zoey talked us all into going out for dinner and things got out of hand."

After some of the things she had seen since the godlings moved in, red eyes were almost normal. Syd had seen many strange things in the past few weeks.

"They certainly don't think like we do. Zoey has a knack of getting what she wants and she certainly has a way of talking the godlings into doing what she wants," she said as she grabbed a beer from the six pack he carried. The good stuff too. Amazing. "Thank you. After earlier tonight I sure needed this." She smiled. "Care to go into the living room?"

	Her cheeks felt like someone took a match and set her cheeks on fire. Apparently she didn't need her daughter embarrassing her. She did just fine on her own. "I'm so sorry." He laughs. "Don't worry about it. I know I have a rep about that too."

Leave it to Tony to still be an asshole to his own staff even after retirement. Leave it to Simon to try to cover for assuming Tony would be less of an asshole. "The man lives for metal. Buildings, cars, labs...When Hawkeye and I were annoyed at him, he was 'tin can'." He rolls his shoulders. "Don't worry about waking the guy. He sleeps less then I do and I don't need sleep."

	Her cheeks turn even more red and she busied herself with taking a drink from her beer. "I talked to Ms. Potts earlier a little earlier," she explained. 	"Ms. Potts didn't go into too much detail, but from what she did say he has third degree burns over most of his body, some shattered ribs, punctured lung and shattered arm and leg. He draws out his response. "Yup."

He licks his lips. "I told Tony I'd help guide Thor's kids, but -" He leans forward, putting his elbows on his knees. "I've been solo for a long time." For a reason. He takes off his glasses and looks at her. "So I'm only going to move back in if you think I won't be in the way - and if I'm ever a distraction, I move out. It's your show, Syd."

"Oh no. It's not my show. Mr. Stark hired me to help them adjust to modern Earth culture. That's it." She smiled a little. "I have my hands full with a very precocious five-year-old to run herd on a bunch of godlings full time. I need some help. Tonight just proved I'm way out of my league. My powers aren't in any way helpful when it comes to keeping them in line."

She leaned forward in her chair. "I need you here, Mr. Williams."
