Family
Friends in high places are wonderful things.  It's even better when they owe you.

The men loyal to Tony Stark have mostly been weeded out over this last month.  Some quit.  Others went to "promotions" within shell companies.  Her Department of Defense friends have already offered potential contracts and as for designing them?  There's always some smart, ambitious kid that wants to make a name for themselves and enough to pay back their student loans.

Margaret Donovan-Stark is at a cocktail party tonight socializing and selling the Stark brand.  Many people here knew her father and brother.  She's selling the old Stark - one that knows and loves America, one that has the company in mind rather then a bunch of "citizen of the world" Avengers, and one that sure as hell doesn't marry Russian spies.  She has the added ability of being every man's fantasy in here - a woman that hunts, fishes, loves money more then shopping, goes to church just enough to claim the Christian label, and is a single former beauty queen.  She sips her wiskey on the rocks and looks out on New York - the town she's beginning to own.

The smile remained on her face. "No, it's more like killing the Wicked Witch of the West. It shouldn't be too hard to find some water." It was amazing how much could be said through a smile. "Let's go. I need to make it look like the Starks are one big happy family despite wanting to do very nasty things to my so called aunt."

She led him across the room where her aunt was standing. As they crossed the room, they were stopped by old acquaintances of her father. She greeted them all with a smile and then thanked them for their well wishes for her father. She assured them that he was making a recovery and would be back on his feet in no time.

She approached her aunt, the smile still on her face.

Never mistake notoriety for fame. Much of the room does take notice, but with Russia's increased aggression before the tsar and with the new royal influence being a wild card the room is very attentive to see how things go. Many of the older, richer ones still think of Russia as a time bomb, whether in the form of politics, terrorism, crime, or the new venture capitalists.

"Yes, Anya?"

"Ms. Donovan we haven't had the pleasure of formally meeting." The smile was still on her face, but there was not an ounce of warmth behind it. Anya held out a hand. Most eyes were on them. The usurper and the heir apparent to Stark Inc. "I'm Anya Stark. Miss Stark will do since it would be very presumptuous of me to have you call me your highness or something along those lines. This is my brother Mr. Mikhail Romanov."

"Ms. Donovan," Misha said with a nod of greeting.

"Pleasure." Let the games begin. "How's you father? Or is that fathers?"

The games had definitely started and Anya scored the first points. She gracefully pulled back the unaccepted hand and the smile on her face remained. Should have taken that offered hand, Auntie Dearest,

The woman was sadly mistaken if she thought bring up the issue of the two of them being bastards and having different fathers was going to rattle their cages. Hell, they had practically joked about the issue most of their lives. This woman was not going to push that button.

"My father is on the road to recovery," she said. "He was always one to bounce back from things rather quickly. It is amazing what medical science can do these days. Rest assured that I will mention it to him that you inquired about his health."

Okay so Dad wasn't quite conscious yet, but this woman didn't need to know that.

Misha's bland smile shifted into humor. Was that intended to be an insult from one bastard to two more? Heaven forbid she be more original than the papers had been during the royalty craziness.

He could just imagine the woman's reaction to his father. "My father is doing very well. I'll pass along your regards."

Merely fact-finding at this point and with a drink in one hand and a senator grasping the other a missed handshake could easily be excused.

"I'm not sure you've met Senator Barnes or Mr. Chamberlin. Gentlemen," She extends a hand. "If you don't know already, this is Anya Stark and her brother - Misha, right? - They're two of the other major stockholders."

Yes, Misha, whether you knew about owning Stark stock or not, she does.

Anya smiled. "I haven't had the pleasure," she said cheerfully and held out a hand. "School and other responsibilities usually keep me too busy to attend these types of functions. Mikhail and I are happy we are able to be here tonight." She shook each man's hand and gave them each a bright smile. "It is a pleasure gentlemen."

They both take the hand. The venture capitalist shakes it silently, but politely. The senator, grasps it in both of his leathery one and gives her and "Evening, young lady," on top of it before returning to the conversation with Margaret.

He couldn't keep the momentary surprise off his face. Being outed as a mutant would have been less a shock.

Recovering somewhat, he offered his hand to both men after Anya, ignoring the senator's rudeness. It was no excuse to be rude himself. "A pleasure, gentlemen. I'm afraid we met so many people during the coronation that I'm still embarrassed I don't remember more names. Please, Ms. Donovan, call me Mikhail. Your Highness would be pretentious for a kid who grew up wanting to be the star pitcher for the Mets."

The venture capitalist's ears perk up. "Why the Mets?"

Misha had the first genuine smile of the night on his face. Baseball was his passion.

"I'm a New York boy, Mr. Chamberlin. Mom took me to watch the Mets play when I was seven and as far as I'm concerned, they're the greatest team in the world. I've had season tickets every year since."

"The rest of us true New Yorkers are Yankees fans," Anya said and patted her brother's arm. "Even though Nick Fury has taken us to many Yankee games, we still haven't been able convert him. He's a die hard fan."

The two men and some of the others in the room chuckle.

"And what team are you for, Ms. Donovan?"

"Red Soxs." To the good-natured growling in the room, she replies. "The Mets don't come through when you need it and the Yankees are like Democrats - throw enough money at it and hope to overcome that way. I'm looking for something a little more aggressive that knows how to spend its money."

"We Mets fans know about loyalty and supporting the home team. Yankees fans too," Misha said with a smile. "No matter how hard the losing streak gets, it always gets better. It's what keeps Nick Fury from turning our godparent-godson talks into baseball arguments."

"Yes, loyalty is the most important thing and if there's one thing us native New Yorkers know, it's loyalty. To our teams, our city, our country and our families."

"Gentlemen, my father has a skybox at Yankees Stadium. We'd be honored if you'd join us for a game sometime."

"New Yorkers also don't miss opportunities." The businessman glances at Ms. Donovan. He slips Mish a card. "Would love to know something about those seats." He nods before dismissing himself politely.

The senator continues to sip his drink.

Now that was a new experience. A businessman slipping him a card instead of a woman slipping him her phone number or room keycard. He put it in his pocket. Loyalties and opportunities were becoming the watchword for the evening. Yes, he was getting up to speed.

"What about you, Senator? Who's your team?"
