Family Vacation
With the right technology, the various offspring of Nathaniel Richards I were not terribly difficult to track down when he recalled their existence.

This time, he was after his favorite unacknowledged bastard. It had been more than a decade. The lad was doing well enough for himself, apparently. No more satisfaction about siring the absolute monarch of Latveria, though. Pity about that -- some sort of Matter of Honor, wasn't it? Boy must've gotten that from Mirela. Or, well, Doom himself, from a less genetic perspective.

But his thoughts were digressing again. Kristoff. And his little friends. In need of a visit. A treat. A bit of a warning. Currently in...the region of Orlando, Florida. Nathaniel, having prepared the equipment he'd need for this little excursion, materialized in one of the rooms of the resort suite in which they were staying. Seeing only Kristoff there, he at first said nothing and just smiled.

Andrea remotely accessed the Baxter Building's files, quickly filling herself in on Nathaniel Richards. A most unpleasant individual, it would seem. The phrase "manipulative bastard" appeared in Mrs. Richard's entry on him.

"I would say it is a pleasure to meet you, but I have little capacity for lying."

Kristoff's eyes narrow. "If you are done finding yourself amusing, Nathaniel? Would you care to explain about the information to which you referred earlier?"

Vincent sneered back at the old man, folding his arms across his chest and keeping himself between Andrea and him.

"More my brother than your son anyway..." He muttered an aside.

"Ah. Yes. The information. I assure you, Kristoff, it's quite relevant to you and your young lady. I'll just bring up the data..." Nathaniel smoothly slid open a screen on the panel of one of his arms and pressed a few buttons.

And that's when it happened. A strange flare of energy, a shift, and, before they can do anything, Kristoff, Cassie, Vincent, and Andrea, along with exactly one suitcase, were in a jungle.

"Kristoff!" Explain. Now. Before she freaked out about her baby, if you please.

Andrea closed her eyes to better access her systems. "Strange. I have attempted to access GPS systems and cannot. In fact, I have completely lost my wi-fi connection to the Baxter Building. I cannot detect zero transmissions of any kind."

"We'll find him," Kristoff says immediately as he looks around. Once he fails to see Scotty, he looks for a specific something and spots it on the ground: one of Nathaniel's transmat receivers, obviously rerigged in some way. He picks it up, muttering. "Recorded message." He crosses over to be nearer to Cassie as he plays it.

"Item one, the boy is fine right when and where you left him. I get so much grief every time I leave a child somewhere in the time stream, and it wouldn't make my point. But the temporal network of receivers I've linked in series should end at the exact moment you departed from the room. Provided that you, Kristoff, do not try to reprogram them to progress faster or otherwise differently in any way. You fortunately don't have to take my word for it; examine the systems yourself. Carefully"

Relieved or not, Kristoff growls.

Vincent feels ill at ease immediately. Even when there was no-one immediately near him, the amount of spellcasters in the modern world created a gentle din that any mage worth their salt could feel as an undercurrent. A steady tone behind any other noise.

This place was dead. There was magic, but nothing was being done with it.

"There's...." He looked around nervously. "There's no mages." He tried examining the local flora, but botany of any era, beyond those plants useful to magical procedures, were outside his areas of interest or expertise.

Kristoff took her hand. "We will get home eventually, and Nathaniel will regret this."

Kristoff, at last less fixated, observed some of the large plants tropical plants around them as well. And botany, of course, was a hobby. "...We appear to be at some point in the Mesozoic. The program is rigged to remove us from it in...." He examined the device some more. "--four hours."

Andrea looked over to Vincent with concern. She found the lack of electronic signals rather disconcerting, so she understood how he felt. The normal background buzz of information and data was suddenly gone, leaving with it only silence.

"Why would he send us here?"

Vincent looked around with a scowl. If they'd come here of their own volition, he'd be eager to go see dinosaurs. As things were, he was livid, and the silence was highly unnerving.

He held Andrea's hand as he spoke, sensing her corresponding unease. "I suppose this is his deranged notion of teaching us something."

"I think we should move. I doubt that he cares about our own safety, he's probably set us here because he knows something will run into us. I'd really rather not punch a dinosaur." She paused. "Although seeing one would be really, really cool." Yeah she'd seen Jurassic Park but dude, dinosaurs.

"I concur." He unzips the suitcase briefly to get out his gauntlets and slip them on, intending to put the rest of the armor on at a better location. He also packs away the transmat receiver before looking to the others. "Are the two of you all right?" he asks, concerned.

Andrea gave Vincent's hand a reassuring squeeze, as much to reassure herself as him.

"I will be all right," she said, after a moment. "I am simply finding the lack of electronic signals disconcerting."

The contents of Kristoff's suitcase were like small crickets chirping away within a vast and engulfing night, but it gave her something else to focus on, to help ground her. She was used to a constant flow of information and connections to the outside world, to have that suddenly cut off...

Vincent, for his part, took stock of what he had on him, going through his pockets. "I've got a general purpose interface card," the same one he'd used on Andrea earlier that day,"my usual portable toolkit, a global rangefinder in my watch that doesn't rely on satellites, and you can salvage the magnetic strips from my credit cards for base material if necessary. I'm fairly certain my magic will still function in this era though. I can teleport us anywhere within my usual range."

He glanced around, still holding onto Andrea. "Shall I assume that you don't want me foraging for ritual components for a chronal displacement spell?"

"Hold on," Cassie said. "He said we'd be returned to exactly the time as we left. He may be a jerk but I don't think he's lying. I don't want us to try going back on our own unless we have to."

"Those spells are imprecise in circumstances like these, even moreso than trying to reconfigure the available material."
Kristoff nods at Cassie's statement. "Then we wait it out."
And walking, it can start to happen.

In the distance, there's a sound in the air that strangely resembles flutes.

Andrea's head snapped in the general direction of the flutes. "There should not be anything capable of making music like that at this point in history," she said.

She considered a point, "Unless the Flintstones was more accurate that I have been led to believe."

Vincent shook his head. "Most certainly not. Stand back everyone." Too risky to fly up and make oneself an easy target for... whatever, better to stay land-bound and with the others.

He moved to put himself between the others and the direction of the noise, gesturing delicately with his hands and speaking a spell quietly. He then moved his palms, fingers crooked, forward, and the greenery looked as if it had been cleanly cut away. The tunnel through the foliage started moving away from them, revealing further and further into the distance.

There are eventually, as some of the ridiculously tall trees in teh distance fade away, some four-ton Corythosauri visible. And agitated. And starting to not just call but move.

Andrea's eyes widened in surprise at the dinosaurs, even as other programs went to work recording data.

"Kristoff... I believe we must have a very long and violent talk with your father." Vincent grimaces as he cuts off the invisibility.

"I've no interest in derailing this timestream into another alternate, god knows they're miserable to catalogue, so I suggest we refrain from lethal force against any of the wildlife."
