Making a Move

After the recent incident with the teddy bears, and the build up of other incidents in the past, Franklin had decided that enough was enough.  It wasn't safe for him to live in the Baxter Building, considering the location.  He needed to be somewhere else, and with people who stood a better chance as fending off things that could go wrong with his powers.  He made arrangements to talk with Tony Stark about moving in with the Defenders.

Franklin had gotten the go-ahead from Pepper and knocked on the door to Tony's office.

Tony's eyebrows raise a fraction as Franklin speaks his request. There are about ten or twenty things he could say to said request, but he goes with the most obvious.

"Franklin, what do your parents and the Fantastic Four think of this idea? I understand your motives, but your father and I have been friends for a long time and I can't just make a decision like this without knowing his take on it." Tony says.

"Can I take the fact that he didn't bring this up prior to now to mean that he doesn't know you're here?" Tony asks.

Franklin shifts a bit uncomfortably at that response. It was true--his parents and the Fantastic Four didn't know anything about him being here.

"Nobody knows I came here to ask you this," he admitted.

"But, this isn't their decision to make. I know what Dad would say. He'd say that I should stay with the Fantastic Four, where I can be monitored and helped to maintain my abilities. But the Fantastic Four has been doing that for two generations, and there isn't anything else they can do.

As much as Dad wouldn't want to admit it, science can't solve my problem. And I don't trust myself to stay in the Baxter Building, not with what's been happening with me lately."

Tony felt bad for Franklin as well as Reed and Susan. He knew of Reed's personal struggle with being unable to help his son, despite all of the time, effort and work he'd put into the problem. He and Reed very proud men when it came to their minds.

It bothered Tony that he hadn't yet been able to bring Steve home for Anya or spend much more time with Stevie.

"You said that you think the Defenders are better equipped to deal with any issues you might have, Franklin and I'm inclined to agree with you in a way. But I also need to consider their stake in this as well. They don't exist in a vacuum out there; at least four people living at the compound are baseline humans without any abilities.
I do need to consider their well-being as well as that of the team...but you are right.

You're an adult, Franklin and this is your decision, so here is what we'll do." Tony says.

"I'll set you up with a meeting with Sydney Ashcroft. She's the Defenders' liaison and team Den Mother. We'll fly you out to Los Angeles and you can tour the compound, meet the team and talk to Sydney about moving in. If she's and the team are good with it, then you're clear to go.

If you need someone to talk your parents about this, let me know and I'll do that. But at least them know, Franklin. At the end of the day, all they want is what's best for you." he says.

Franklin sighed a big sigh of relief and smiled.

"Thank you," he said. "And I will tell them."
