Meeting of the Minds
Griffen had decided he was going to start ordering parts for new computer upgrades. It wasn't his thing but it had to be done. That was when he had noticed someone was already doing his job for him. That was a little surprise.

He smiled a little as he picked up one of the boxes to check out what was being installed. He gave a low whistle of geek approval as he wandered into the computer room. He looked up and had a moment of surprise.

"Miss Stark?" He blinks again then offers her a smile. "It's good to see you again. Is there anything I can do to help you?"

He doesn't seem as shy as he once was but then again the first time they met was in the middle of a crisis and the next time they were around each other was when the Defenders got called in. Griffen notes that they never really got to talk before.

Anya giggled as she put her hand to the scanner, granting them access to the lowest level. Only her, Dad or Uncle Hank could access the lower lab.

The elevator took them down to the lowest level in the complex.

It was nearly two and a half hours latter. Griffen had a visible skip to his step because he had been pretty much thrilled by everything. He was throwing together something for them to eat since apparently they were both hungry.

The smell of frying vegetables and meat filled the air and he was cooking rice to go with it. Carbs to him were heaven.

"You're starting college, right? Looking forward to it," he inquires in a friendly tone.

Anya smiled as she sat at the table leaning on an elbow. "Yes. I start MIT in a...wow. Only a week." She smiled more. "Yes, I'm looking forward to it. A lot."

"I was your age when I got into NYU," he mentions. "But I think I remember you're Dad going too? It must be different having a legacy to live up to."

"My dad graduated when he was my age," she said. "It is a lot to live up to, but the only thing I want to do is make him proud. I don't want to let him down."

Griffen agrees while he adds some salt to add a little flavor to the food. "Your Dad is a great guy." He's sure Anya knows that.

"No one with half a heart does, Anya. Your Dad is more than just some CEO and I think you'll do him credit." The world needed more people like Tony Griffen thought.

"He is," she agreed. "Though he does make mistakes like everyone else, but in the end he tries to do what's right." Dad was by far from being a saint and Anya knew this. She idolized her father, but also knew he had faults like everyone else.

"Thanks. That means a lot, Griffen. He's a tough act to follow."

"I guess I'm lucky then. Genius from working class," he says dryly. "I grew up around the meat markets. It was great though since I always knew where to get odd jobs from."

It kept him busy and explained why he wasn't exactly a puny looking guy for a lab man. "Though it took me months to own up to having a job to my mother. She was looking forward to me finishing grad school."

He takes the pan off the burner and rescues the rice. Steam pours up into his glasses and he makes a barely annoyed sound since it stung just a little.

"It would be easier making a name for yourself instead of living up to someone else's name," she said. She smiled. "Sometimes it is hard to tell parents things. Dad and I have a great relationship, but there are things that are hard to tell him. I think every kid is like that with a parent."

"You can still finish grad school," she pointed out. "There are some great schools out here. Cal Tech and UCLA to start. Now that Dad isn't making you slave away in a lab, you should have some free time."

"That's true. Given my credit hours at either university it would be fairly easy to jump back in," he would have to take this fall off though he guessed. "Plus I don't need to T.A anymore."

He considers that then moves onto talking more. "Mom was hard to talk to about things. She was always trying to figure out how to make things work. Granda is the one who I tried talking to."

Anya nodded. "It would be good to have your degree."

"I can understand that. My mother is difficult to talk to as well. Just because...well she's who she is. The Black Widow isn't the easiest person to talk to even when you're not her kid. I talk to my dad or my older brother."

He agrees with her.

"Mine is a chef...so more often then not I was her test subject for new ideas. Talking came up on occasion but it was always difficult for us to get around to normal stuff. We were never good at the whole talking to each other thing."

"Yeah, it's like that for me. Did you learn how to cook from your mom? Do you have any siblings?"

"Yeah. She thought she needed to pass her skills on," he explains imagining Anya's mother did much the same with her kids.

"No. My Father died when I was young and Mom just now started dating again." He was happy for her. The guy his Mom was seeing seemed like a stand up guy so Griffen wasn't going to make any noise.

He was serving up the food now.

"That's good. You'll never starve. I was taught everything except how to cook." Anya laughed a little. "The women in my family are horrible cooks. We know how to burn things."

Anya looked at the food in front of her. It looked and smelled delicious. "Thank you." She gave him a smile.

"And as an added bonus if I ever start dating I can wow the potential date with real food." Plus he knows good cooking so restaurants get the hairy eye ball from him on occasion.

"That's just a little scary. You're welcome." He digs in with good cheer.

"Yes. Girls would love that." She smiled. She would personally love a guy who could cook.

"Mom and I have a permanent ban from the kitchen at the Avengers mansion. Jarvis doesn't like us burning things and destroying the appliances."

She picked up her fork and took a bite. "Oh this is really good."

He didn't know any guys her age who could cook.

"See, that's scary. Can you at least do coffee?" Somehow it wouldn't shock him if she couldn't. People who couldn't cook didn't make sense to him.

"Thanks. We might get visitors if they smell the food." He has often found himself cooking for the team, he doesn't mind at all.

"It's not scary," she said. "I have mad takeout ordering skills." She grinned. "I can make coffee. That's about it."

She nodded. "The smell of food brings people running. It's the same at the Avengers mansion. Cook something and someone always shows up to eat."

"And shocking for a guy my ordering skills are sub-par. Pizza baffles me since there are so many ways to top it."

He grinned a little. "I'm just glad we order food in bulk. Do you guys eat a lot? I noticed how much these guys eat, and I'm no slouch either. Mostly because I have a love affair with food."

Speaking of eating a lot, and loving food, the barely dressed, 7' Norse berserker follows the smell of food and sounds of voices in the kitchen, which often means more food is forthcoming, into the kitchen.

"Ahhh, the Lady Stark. Tis good to see thee. I hope I am not interrupting thy wenching, Griffen."

Blink. Blink. Hello tall, muscled and good looking. She smiled. "Please, call me Anya. Lady Stark is way too formal. Halbjorn...right?"
